DENON LINK 3rd now fully supports all digital audio transmission specifications, including SACD as well as CD and DVD-Audio. Currently the AVR-3805 and AVR-5805 support DENON LINK 3rd as well as the upcoming AVR-4806 and any future receivers/processors released with DENON LINK connectivity. An upgrade for DENON LINK 3rd is currently also available for Denon’s critically acclaimed AVR-5803 audio/video receiver (DENON LINK 3rd was factory-installed in some units). This approval now permits Denon to offer DENON LINK 3rd on the company's high-performance DVD-5910, DVD-3910 and DVD-5900 universal DVD players as these players had previously only supported DENON LINK SE (Second Edition), which did not permit SACD digital transmission.</FONT></P><P><FONT face=Arial size=2>Information on how to obtain an upgrade for the DVD-5910, DVD-5900 and DVD-3910 will be available at the company’s website (</FONT><A href="http://www.usa.denon.com/" target=_blank><FONT face=Arial size=2>www.usa.denon.com</FONT></A><FONT face=Arial size=2>) within the next couple of weeks.</FONT></P><P><FONT face=Arial size=2>[Get More Details]</FONT></P>

Denon Link 3rd

I am aware of the new Denon Link 3rd Edition SACD certification but there is a disclaimer of sorts on Denon’s website (ADDENDUM TO NEWS RELEASE REGARDING ADVANCE APPROVAL OF DENON LINK INTERFACE FOR THE UPCOMING 2.0 SACD SPECIFICATION) that says Denon Link 3rd Edition only supports the new 2.0 SACD format and not the current 1.3 SACD. This seems to indicate that the new Denon Link 3rd edition is incompatible with the current 1.3 SACD media and that it will be 12-24 months before the new media is available. To me that means that upgrading to Denon Link 3rd Edition is pointless.

Actually I think you are confusing this with an older press release regarding ver2.0. This DOES include ver1.3 !!!

My 3910 is getting a new laser... well it's waiting on a new laser from Japan, I wonder if Denon will update it while it's in for repairs?

Any news?

Well, we are heading into July now and still no news on when the upgrade will become available. Unless I misread the press release, I thought it was to be available in May.

Did I mis-understand the article?

Thanks for the clarification.

I could not wait any longer and so I installed the Euro version of DL3 on my 3910 connected to the 3805. I found the software on the AVS Forum site. The link to the files appears to be not functioning, but there are AVS forum members who might send you the files if you are interested. Basically, you have to create 3 CD's with the upgrade programs on them and install them in sequence. Instructions are included and it was relatively easy to do. Now, I can play SACD and DVD-Audio via the single Denon Link cable. My 3910 came with a cable (it appears to be a standard cat5 network cable) and it worked (sounds great) with SACD and no issues. I am using the DL3 connection for all digital audio and it is great. I must admit, I was a little nervous about loading this "bootleg" copy of the DL3, but luckily it came directly from Denon Europe and worked great.

Thanks for that info. Do you happen to have the version number/file name handy?

Thanks.

Here is what I believe to be the ver. (not sure about this) and file names (I am sure about these) from the DL3 upgrade CD's. The original files are .iso files that convert into the files below when written to CD in iso 9660 format.

Ver. 6609-B including DL3

Disk 1
D31ZSAVD.CFW
Disk 2
DV3910sys.id
DV3910sys.mot
SUP3910.rom
Disk 3
D391IL.ROM

The European version is available. Who knows when DenonUSA will release their DL3 upgrade, but the European DL3 doesn't affect region coding or anything else. Search the "3910 Owner's Thread" over at AVS for a link (somewhere about 7-10 days ago...it's a massive thread). I had a hell of a time trying to burn the iso files and ended up having them e-mailed to me from another member. If you're interested, let me know (either here or via PM).
