For $423 shipped the Dayton Audio package seems like one of the better choices in the under $500 price range.

The BIC PL-200 for $330 also looks good, but based on specs and reviews, the Dayton package seem slightly better.

This is replacing a The Speaker Company 10" sub in a 14x22 living room used for 80% tv/movies and 20% music.

Any thoughts or suggestions in the under $500 price range? I can build a cabinet, but the knock down package seems decent and a good deal. Thanks!

I've built a couple of the daytons for friends, and with eq they are an excellent value. If your handy it's a good bargain. I haven't installed plate amps on the ones built so I can't speak for them. Did a 10" ultimax with the plate amp and dampened, turned out nice for a small room without worry of distortion.

The SVS outlet is sweet, I'm going to keep an eye out for a ported sub in my price range. The amp I thinking about is external 230w unit, plate amps seem like they would compromise the integrity of the knock down box.
