Connecting speakers with XLR-output to a desktop computer?

Hi there,

I've noticed that most studio monitors or bookshelf speakers feature RCA. Yet the ones I plan to buy, got XLR. What do I need to connect them to the motherboard of a PC? And potentially, can a DAC like the Audioengine D1 with RCA output, be an advantage if I get an XLR-to-RCA adapter, or is that a bad idea?

You can find RCA to XLR cables at your local guitar shop, or on line at places like Monoprice. Be sure and get a pair with XLR male connectors.

If your computer only has a headphone output, you’ll also need a stereo 3.5 mm to RCA female splitter. It won’t hurt anything to use the DAC.
