Connecting Audyssey mic to PC (onboard audio)

Hi,

I saw a FR graph that shows that the Audyssey XT mic is fairly accurate in the lower range of frequencies, with deviations of about 2db when compared to a calibrated EMM-6 microphone, so I figured it should be good enough to check my DIY subwoofer performance using REW.

The Audyssey mic has a mono 3.5mm connector, which I plugged into my PC's onboard input jack. When I did that, the Realtek software asked me whether the jack on the PC should behave as a Mic input, or a Line In. I tried both options, but the mic doesn't seem to pick up any sound. I checked it with the SPL meter on REW and indeed no sound is detected by the mic.

I should mention that the mic definitely works when connected to a receiver.

The audio inputs on the motherboard are all stereo, so I wonder if that is the problem.

Thanks.

Could be, but it could also be that the computer’s mic pre-amp isn’t suitable for that mic.
