I wish they would've had black when I got mine, but the blue is ok I guess. It's a great phone for sure, you will definitely like it.
Yep, I could have gotten the blue or white for $48 but the black cost me $199.

I did get 25% of the phone and 19% of the data plan through a work discount.

It also came with a free Samsung Tablet which seems pretty cool. I just had to pay any extra $10 for the data package for it.

I hope that you aren't going to put it into a case...that will cover up the black that you paid $151 for. :)

Btw, you can get the back covers in an assortment of colors from third party merchants. It's the color of the front face that you're really paying for.

The funny thing was once I found the black one they only had a blue case for it...

I skipped that case and found a black one. I agree it's silly paying for a special color and then covering it up but heck, I do a lot of silly stuff.

Now that's a good deal.

It is yet to be seen if the giant phone bothers me or not.

From cNet:

The problem was that apparently all new razr devices (my brother had this problem on his razr maxx too) come with this 'surround sound' feature that seems to do nothing but destroy the audio quality of anything plugged into the audio jack. So..all you have to do is TURN OFF THE SURROUND SOUND OPTION and its completely fine.

Detailed instructions: SETTINGS > SOUND > WIRED STEREO DEVICES (bottom of the screen) > CHANGE TO CUSTOM > TURN OFF SURROUND

I actually have the audio effects turned off completely because its a little clearer but the surround accounts for most of the buzzy, staticy distortion.

Brenda has the Razr Maxx...I'll have to check that out.
I will never buy a motorola phone again. They may have put food on my table as a kid, but their phones always broke on me.

Get a Samsung Galaxy. I love my skyrocket. And yeah 200 is way too much. They were like 1 dollar online I think.

Between me, my wife and the (very small) company I use to manage and procure phones for I have never had a motorola phone fail that wasn't a case of abuse...I just jinxed myself didn't I.:(:D

So, what is probably a good smart phone to get if I haven't had a cell phone for probably 8 - 10 years?

The Samsung Galaxy s3 or the Iphone 5.
Last Friday I got the Samsung Galaxy s3 and my wife got the Iphone 5. So far, I like the S3 better and she likes the 5 better.

They both seem like good phones, the S3 seems like it allows more tinkering and the 5 seems like it is a little less cumbersome on some tasks. I think I would be comfortable with either.

Does anyone have any experience with Straight Talk. I wanted to go with a month to month carrier to try the phone out to see if it is something that I really want / need, or are there other carriers that would be worth looking into.

The phone is mainly for my wife, and I may use it when I take the kids snowboarding and when I go mountain biking so that she can get a hold of me.

Here's the Tablet that came with the phone for free.

I dunno...

Rita loves her Iphone (and Ipad) and all her electronic toys and has apps coing out the arse but me, I'm somewhat of a luddite here. I still love my trusty titanium Motorola RAZR V3 and will cry wen it finally dies.

But, all hope is not lost! I still have Rita's pink one lying in wait for when that happens. Now, if I can just reconcile using a pink phone...

I will say, though, that the weekly facetime with the grandkids makes the Iphone pretty useful.

I still have mixed feelings about this phone. On one hand, it is the best phone (and by phone, I mean a device to call people) that I have ever used. The clarity and reception is top notch.

The email is a little strange to me as it just gives you a pop-up at the top of the screen that tells you you have a notification. I want the email icon to show me how many emails I have.

There also seems to be a lot of redundancy. It's like if you want to delete a text it has too many steps to do it.

You hit "delete"

It says: "you sure you want to delete"

Hit delete again and it says "you really sure?"

Hit it again

It says: "you may need this later, you sure?"

Hit yes

It says" "I'm not sure you want to delete this, I'm going to keep it"

Then I trow it.

I am sure I still need to learn more about it but my iPhone seemed much easier to navigate.
