Audio Rack Construction

I'm remodeling my house and am considering alternatives for my home theater. I'm deadset on the idea of concealing my system inside a good audio rack that will be recessed into my wall.

I'm trying to get tips about how to build an in-wall rack that will keep my equipment cool and be practical. I don't need anything big and I'm a handy guys that is good at carpentry. Is there anyone out there with some design ideas. Thanx.

If possible, make it something like a closet with back entrance so that way hook-up and cable issues are easy to deal with. That kind of design could also offer lots of vent space. If you're putting your speakers in walls, make sure to deaden the area around them with lots of acoustic insulation.

good luck!

Here's a thought...

Find your home's fresh air vent ducting...

That would be from the bathroom vents....

Gotta be careful how to duct into it but a filter
and fan assembly (thermostatic) tied into the
exhaust of the house has not only cool'd the
system but it's even quieter than before with
just forced air (fan) out of the top of the rack.

You can tie into it in the attic (or run a seperate
stack altogether and just vent into the attic space)

Which was my original plan until I needed some HVAC
at the house and was talking HT & my system and
before I knew it it was a done deal 4" ducting
"trapped and filtered" keeps any possible moisture
from migrating into the rack space.

I offered up the fan for forced exhaust and a
makeshift "plenum" was built with the filter
and such which allows access for the
filter or fan replacement.

Really works & been in production for a few months
much cooler / quieter but not the system the HVAC
guy would have done himself.... (forced cooling!)

Just an idea (cheap) that has worked for me anyway

These guys mentioned:
Easy access
Ventilation
How about good lighting back there for hook-up?
