Does anyone have any experience with both these speaker systems? Can anyone confirm/deny that they are the sunfire/cavalier of home audio?

They probably are the same or very similar. Both Athena and Energy are part of the another company that also owns Mirage.

Yes they are the same, but the subwoofer in the Energy set is better.
