Bear with me on this for a moment

In theory, run hdmi out and hdmi1 input from the receiver, to a splitter, then to the tv. in turn, if I'm watching tv I could turn on the receiver to hdmi1 and get audio from that input.
In a sense my hdmi-in on the tv would have 2 hdmi connections.

Answered my own question.

What I need is a hdmi switch that is 4k compatible with 2 hdmi outputs, any recommendations?

So, a splitter? I don't think you're going to find a dual output switch outside a receiver. If that is the case, get a new receiver that has ARC so you don't have this problem.

Maybe a matrix switch will do what you want, but those can be pretty pricey.
