I have a Yamaha RX-671 7.1 receiver . Im running 5 speakers plus sub with my fronts bi wired. I wanna add two speakers to my set up but would have to not bi wire the two fronts. My question is can i add a channel somehow to run all 7 speakers and bi wire my fronts ? or do i have to buy a 9 channel amp?...i just bought my Yamaha like 4 months ago so im trying to avoid buying a 9 channel receiver so soon. Thanks

By all accounts passive bi-wiring(what we're doing) adds very little
Although with spare channels it would be silly not to use them

For what it's worth all the big buck demo system's i've heard
Still use 5.1

I'm sure you could add a second 2 channel amp somehow
But it would be a load of hassle
Either buy a 9 channel
Or forget bi-wiring for the time being and get your spkr setup
Right ..upgrading your amp later on
Going by everything i've read passive bi-amping has negligible effect..

Let me reiterate what twoeyedbob is saying: biwiring off a receiver is a waste of time. Adding a separate 2ch amp for the mains would be a better idea and then you could use the receiver to power the rest of the speakers in a 7.1 configuration. No, you do not need a 9 ch amp to do what you are asking.
