This is generally considered a failure of the DLP chip and a boneyard type of issue.

Here is a long thread about why you are about to throw away your TV. I just went through this same issue with my Mitz.

If you don't want to give up on it call Mitsubishi. I work for service center and we pick up and repair at least one or two Mitsubishi's a week with the same problem and Mitsubishi has been providing the DLP chip for free and the customer covers labor. We charge about $200 but I can't speak for other service shops.

Yep, I was told if you are persistent you could get the part for free and they would pay for half the labor but I gave up and purchased another plasma.
