Default LG taking pre-orders for 84-inch 4K UHDTVs, shipping next month in Korea for $21,975

The Ultra High Definition TV (UHDTV) dream may be some way off for most of us, but it's a different story if you're in South Korea. LG is taking orders for a limited batch of 84-inch 4K sets and plans to ship them at the end of next month. The sets are "only" 4K resolution, so won't quite match up to the prototype 8K Super Hi-Vision sets from Panasonic and Sharp, but both 4K and 8K technically make up part of the UHDTV specification.

LG's sets will come with a 2.2 speaker setup, and the company is also giving away 3D glasses and camcorders to people who preorder, as well as promising to provide 4K content. It's the least LG could do, really, considering the sets will cost around 25 million won (about $21,975), though with only 84 units available buyers will at least get to bask in the glow of exclusivity for a short while. That is, until LG follows through with its stated plans to release UHDTV products in North America, Europe, and elsewhere in Asia later this year.

I'm shocked. Almost an entire day without Darien making a remark about, "Well, if it comes with the model...", followed by the inevitable Rick/Asian connection.

    Default Lr! Lg! Lg!

Recently replaced a 32" Haier HD display in my office with an LG 47LM8600 and must say where have this company been hiding. The led displays a great picture! Not to brag but the 2D to 3D is awesome but the 3D with the passive glasses makes this smart tv over the top. Great job LG! However this newer Ultra would eat my retirement check!
