Look at the ST50 and GT50, both of which are probably better than the Vt30.

Hmm, where are all the old TV threads? I know there was some good comments about what some liked and didn't like about each of the models. Looks like this thread was purged.
Is the VT50 worth the extra price in admission over the VT30? 3D is contrived and gives me migraines.

I don't want to "probably" buy a better TV. I want to with certainty.

Read the reviews and look yourself. With the new louver filter the current ST50 has black levels and processing at least as good as the VT30. The GT50 has a very good THX preset and twice as many levels of gradation, but not much more. The VT50 adds a couple of things you'll probably never use.

cantonguy is quite helpful
SO you mention the GT and VT, but what about the ST(which doesn't have THX mode). I am kind of curious about the same thing. I was looking at the 60" ST50, but started thinking maybe last years VT30 may be better for the same money. I don't know. I have been looking for this answer. I know last years model had some issues, but generally people really like their sets. I'm pretty set on a Panny plasma...just need to figure out if it is better to go VT30 or ST50 and why.
This year's ST50 is a better buy than last year's VT30 IMO (which is why I just bought the ST50).

Leaning towards the ST50 after reading a lot about it, but I want to do a side by side first.

actually, ST50 and GT50 are mostly carry-overs from 2011 models and have same panels, with somewhat updated electronics ..
VT50 however have a brand new New panel and new louvers system, not found on gt50 or lower models

When you're arguing with an idiot, make sure the person you are speaking to isn't doing the same thing.
The ST50 is as I understand brighter and has less FBL issues. It's apparently a big improvement.

PENG should be listened to
I agree. The following comparison table should be quite helpful.
https://panasonic.ca/english/audiovi...arison2012.asp
The ST/GT/VT all have the NeoPlasma. The GT/VT have twice as mush shades of gradation but the ST still has twice as much shades of gradation as last year's GT/VT models. Whether that is a significant factor or not I don't know.
