Wasn't there a similar AH article last year that prices had hit the bottom? I can't remember (and am too lazy to look it up) if a company was quoted in that article, but prices kept coming down after that.

The price of LCD based HDTV panels have finally hit rock bottom, so says LG Chief executive Kwon Young-Soo. If you’re sitting on the fence about a new LCD panel purchase – the steep price drops might have already subsided, if LG is to be believed. As the world’s second largest LCD manufacturer LG should know a thing or two about their value. After all, the company was one of those implicated in the LCD price fixing scandal earlier this decade.

When I used to sell televisions (prior to flat panels being released), for a few years, pricing stabilzed on tube sets. It took about $500+ or so to get into a quality 32" (Sony, Panasonic) and about $700-$800+ to get into a quality 36" for quite a few years. 40" projection sets started around $1K.
Once flat panels started becoming more resonable, that all changed. I would expect that 32" LCD sets will begin to flatten out around the $500 mark for a quality set (Sony, Panasonic, Samsung).

I bought Toshiba's top of the line LCD about six months ago and paid $3000. On a whim, I checked Crutchfield the other day and the same TV is now $2200.
Prices continue to drop but you have to pick a point you are comfortable with and just go with it. When large size LCDs from the top tier manufacturers are available for under $1K at Wal-Mart then we'll know that the technology has matured and there probably won't be any further reductions.

Who knows what real rock bottom is? We never know what a place pays for TV's. You have to negotiate to push it as far as you can go. Especially in today's market. I am looking at some of the larger screens and have been playing two stores off each other. I even told the guy at one store listen you may think it is a bad thing but if you want the sale let me know if you don't tell me and i will buy from the other place...guess what he called me back and beat the other price again. . .don't be afraid to walk away. and they will ALWAY tell you that they are right at their cost or below it, that is bull crap...too bad unlike cars where we know the invoice price, we can't find the invoice price for TV's.
They must be hurting to start a bogus marketing scheme IMO. I won't ever trust them after their price fixing....Tools.....
