    Default HSU STF-1,DT Powercube III

I'm going to try to get a smaller sub in the living room to please my wife. She just doesn't like how much it stands out in the room, and I'm not going to argue since she has put up with just about everything I wanted to buy, etc.

I'm looking at the STF-1 and the DT Supercube III. They both seem to get good reviews and I like the small width foot print, which would also please my wife. Now who has heard either and what did you think. The room isn't huge,I would guess 10x10,give or take.

If you guys/gals have any others in the $300-$400 range that has dimensions close to these that may be a better choice, let me know.Thanks.

    STF-1 17 H x 11 W x 15 D
    DT supercube 10.2 H x 10.2 W x 10.2 D

Another potential option is the Energy ESW-M8. It won't rattle your walls, but I seriously doubt anything that meets your size and price requirements will. Probably the best small sub around is the SVS SB12-NSD, but that one misses your price target unfortunately.

Tech, I can't say how the Energy sub recommended above compares to the two you were already considering because I've never heard either of them. I've had the M8 for about a month now for a portable system I put together and I have to say I'm fairly impressed with what it does for such a small size. I think it would be a good fit for your small room. It obviously won't hit the subsonics, but it plays very clean. I have only used it for music but it does an excellent job. I first tried it out in a room roughly double the size of yours. It gave music the satisfying weight in the lower end my powered monitors were lacking. Not sure how you feel about ebay, but the mirage MM-8 (same sub) is available new for $240.

Nothing in that price range is going to handle subsonics with any authority, so I wouldn't focus on that. The SVS SB-12 is probably what I'd try to shoot for too.

Thanks for the replies. I know that I wouldn't be rattling any walls, but that's the sacrifice I'll make to keep my wife happy.
There is a guy who has a Supercube 3 for sale for $75,but he's an hour away. Not sure I want to travel that far just to take a listen.

Heck, for $75, it is a good starting point. As long as it works, it should certainly fit the bill for small. Depending on the size of your room, you might want to keep an eye out for a second one They are small enough to be easy to hide.
