    Default New sub

Have a friend that is looking for a sub. He is changing from an HTIB, just got a decent receiver and is looking for a sub. He asked me and I figured I would just ask the pros

The listening area is 12x12 but the room is 12x24 in total. 8' ceiling

    Budget is approx $500

The Rythmik FV12 comes in a little over budget and may still be out of stock at their website, but it comes highly recommended. It's one of the more sophisticated internet direct subwoofers and is well regarded for it's performance, no new big box store subwoofer at this budget will come close.

This subwoofer will completely change your friend's comprehension of home theater, guaranteed.

Even if the FV12 is not yet available, I would wait for it. And perhaps it might even be on sale once the supplies go back up. It was $500 a few months ago and for a long time.

It might be some time before you see another FV12 - Rythmik is redesigning it, but the new one won't be ready for a while yet. For some inexplicable reason they seemingly opted not to have sufficient stock of the current model while waiting for the new one to be finished, so Rythmik will probably have a gap in their product line for a bit.

Hsu Research VTF2 mk4 or Outlaw Audio LFM-1 Plus, if you can swing a bit more. The Rythmik FV12 would be great too, were it available. If your budget is strict though, you out to check this kit out.

Not that the Dayton kit is bad but if I had some money to spend on a kit then I'd get the CSS Trio12/APR15 kit!! It's $379 & will have the b@lls for movies but the accuracy for music. It's a 12" XBL^2 driver with a 15" passive radiator. It includes a BASH amp & directions for the exact size enclosure to build. Everything you'd need for a killer DIY sub!!!
