Default subwoofer replacement- floor standing speaker

Hi, newbie here. Trying to replace dry-rotted 20 year old subs in my old floor standing speakers. They are KLH 3 way sealed 2055's with (only basic specs on back) 12" woofer, 12" passive woofer, 5 1/4 dynamic midrange, 1" soft dome tweeter. with (???) 900 Hz and 2,800 Hz crossover points. The receiver I have running them now is an Onkyo TX-NR609. These speakers sound great, but can't find much on google about them. I don't really want to refoam the old woofers. Was hoping to find some suitable replacements, but this is where i get lost. Questions-->
    1. What ohm should they be?
    2. Would I also have to replace the passive woofer to match the new one?
    3. With a little modification, Could this be re-wired to be bi-ampable?
    or
    4. Should I scrap them , and get a new pair? I have become attached to these speakers, they don't hit super low, but are very clean. I've ran them through the ringer over the years, and they have never disappointed. My budget for 2 new replacements (if that is the way to go) would have to be between $400-500.
Thanks in advance for any help

If you want to keep them, then you have to refoam those woofers. You can do this yourself or, send them to somebody like Orange County speakers to have them done.

There is no such thing as a replacement driver, except the original factory replacement. Because of drivers unique T/S and acoustic parameters, the replacement will not work properly in the box you have and the different acoustic parameters require a complete crossover redesign.

Even if you wanted to use different drivers, you would have to refoam yours and get them working, to measure the T/S parameters.

So your choices are refoam or scrap. It's your call.

Thanks Bored and TLS for the quick reply. I guess refoaming is the way to go. There's a shop here in town that will do it for $50 a speaker. I think I'll take a step back in this thread and look at the subs and spend my money there. One more question : How much does the receiver come into play when buying a powered sub (as far as the power part)? Is it all coming from the amp on the sub, or is the receiver adding to it?

There is no power coming from the receiver, just voltage and the power would be in the micro watt range. All the power for the sub comes from the amp in the sub.

If you like those speakers refoaming is a good idea. You can't buy much of a speaker for $50, not even a decent woofer driver.

As far the power goes - the receiver does none, but it's the subwoofer integration features of the receiver is what really matters, also called bass management.

Think of this - if you receiver is 20 years - most likely it has none of these
