Can't afford the subs but it will be neat to see the stand alone SMS-1 replacement.

Velodyne's new Digital Drive Plus line was announced at CEDIA as a replacement to the venerable Digital Drive series. The cabinets are now contoured shaped and the driver has been completely redesigned for more output, and less distortion. The controls are now all front panel mounted and the backpanel sports a full array of balanced inputs and outputs. The product model structure remains the same ranging from the small but potent DD10+ all the way up to the earthshaking DD18+. Finish options include black gloss ebony, satin cherry or walnut.

Well, not only is the driver motor upgraded, but I'm guessing that the biggest improvement comes from the increased box size. It would appear that Velo is moving away from an aesthetics driven solution to a performance driven one. It's easy to do if you increase the box size. Trust me, they certainly haven't "checkmated" JL Audio by any stretch of the imagination. Copied them, perhaps, but not "checkmated". That's nothing more than hype, especially without any testing.
