Thumbs up Cobalt Speaker Cables

After reading the cable comparison/shoot out, I decided to check out a pair of Cobalt cables.
I ordered a 3 meter pair, terminated with locking banana jacks on both ends.
First off... they shipped to me pretty fast, I received them in under a week.
next observation.... they look cool, and the jacks work very well.
Last but not least.... they perform very well. I can't say that I hear angels sing, but there seems to be an increase in volume, bass may be a bit tighter, and I know this may sound crazy... but there is more air.. sounds more open and real. I am comparing these cables to Kimber 4TC and Radio Shack's finest. I think that the are priced right and I'm happy with them.

I would really like you to do me a favor. Do you have an SPL meter and a CD of test tones?

If so, and you still have the Kimbers, Could you please reinstall the Kimbers and play a 1000 Hz tone and measure the SPL (make the setting comfortable to yourself). Turn everything off. Turn it back on and play the 1000 Hz tone again. Is it the same SPL +/- 0.3 dB? Now turn everything off again and install the Colbalt cables. Without changing anything, turn it all back on again and play the 1000 Hz tone. What is the SPL?

Of course all this data would be anecdotal, but useful for my new project trying to prove a theory I yanked out of my butt.

Mudcat;

Most SPL meters aren't accurate enough to record the differences you are after. The best way to do this would be to attach a scope to the speaker and measure the level difference if any. If you do measure a difference at 1kHz it is likely a result of resistance differences between the two cables o r added insertion loss of the higher resistance cable.

I know, but I don't own a sillyscope yet! (How to explain that to the wife - They were throwing it out at work dear, honest.)

I'll put together sort of an "executive summary" if what I plan, and email it ot you, John, and a few others outside of the audio world, for comment before I actually go and spend money on a scope.

Mudcat;

Can't you borrow one from work for a day or two? I will help devise a testplan for you if you like.
