Arrow JL Audio Fathom f112 Subwoofer Review

The JL Audio has produced a very serious subwoofer in the Fathom f112, the smallest sibling in their home audio line.. This is a powerful sub capable of prodigious deep bass output. Make no mistake; if you have loose objects in the house, this sub will locate them and point them out. Also, be prepared to find interior partition walls complaining into adjacent rooms. For the best possible listening experience, find all loose items and secure them. For those who have not experienced a subwoofer capable of generating bass to the limits of human hearing, one with substantial output capabilities down into the subsonic range, the JL Fanthom f112 with acquaint you nicely. Add this sub to your auditioning shopping list if you are after ultra high performance, reasonable box size and cost.

I would like to know if you would consider evaluating the Fathom JL 112 or 113 against the Axiom EP500 subs. With all things being equal, and interchanging the subs.
Now we are talking about subs at two different price points, one 50% less expensive than the other.
This comparison would take into consideration, cost,a real world determining factor in purchasing HT equipment

Hardly a deal for close to US$3000 price tag and 10dB+ drop from 25 to 20Hz at 100Hz test. It is flat above that and that is important but you can get this level of performance from several other subs with less distortion for 2/3 the price!

I hear ya. $3,200 up here in the Bay. I don't doubt it's a great sub; just not very friendly in the bang-for-the-buck department.

Its not about money, it's about owning the best. Frankly, if I had money I'd have a couple of them or DD 15's.

Good review, seems like a good option for those with cash to burn. There seems to be a lot of them out there.

items like this are not meant for every buyer, thus the price tag. comparisons are inevidable but trust me, these JL woofers equal or best EVERY subwoofer $5000 and below. They are a tremendous deal. If you cant afford them, they were not intended for you. Just dont try to bash them or say they aren't a good deal just because you cant get one into your listening room. Bang-for-the-buck is meant for Camaros and Mustangs (HSU/SVS), not Aston's and Mercedes (JL/DD Velodyne)and the same applies to the audio world as well.

Not hardly a "tremendous deal". Is it a great performer? Yes. Is it worth the money? That's a VERY subjective question. A good deal means different things to different people.

So don't go bashing people that are more money concious than you are. This board is about people sharing their opinions. Yes, opinions are like ***-holes; everybody has one, and they usually stink. But don't fault someone just because they said what they think.

Sorry, but it will not even equal my RSW15, based on the measurements in the test and it is only $1800. So, you can claim that it is a high end unit to justify its price but there are better subs for less. The Klipsch goes just as low and just as flat. Now, if they charged the same price as my sub, it would be a steal!! The RSW15 is up there with Genelec and Velodynes Signature 1812 and they cost close to $10K and are the size of a small car. So, there are good subs out there even though most people do not generally use Klipsch in the same breath.

I have attached Nousaines test results to back up my claims.

http://members.cox.net/fabulousfrankie/Nousaine.htm

From the test results, the JL it is a great sub and very few subwoofers can play as flat as the JL. I am not knocking its performance and I would be happy to own one. I just wish it was $1000 cheaper.
