Yamaha today introduced two mid-class 7.1 channel A/V digital home theater receivers, the RX-V2700 and RX-V1700. The RX-V2700 features an Ethernet connection, enabling consumers to access Internet radio stations, music files stored on a PC, and the company’s premier MusicCAST audio system server (MCX-2000). Both models are compatible with the Apple iPod, via an optional docking station (YDS-10), and allow playback of XM Satellite Radio’s standard and XM HD Surround content. The RX-2700 and RX-V1700 are capable of HDMI 1080p signal pass through and up-converting analog composite, S-video and component signals to HDMI output, with a time base corrector (TBC) that stabilizes the video signal. Both models employ the latest Oplus™ de-interlacer to convert 480i to 480p. The RX-V2700 can also upscale to HD resolution of 720p/1080i by utilizing Anchor Bay Technology’s ABT1010 video scaling chip.

It will be interesting to see if they use HDMI v 1.3 . If it doesn't, will it work with the PS3 which is going to have v 1.3?

No Thx?

I was looking on the pictures and I did not notice a THX Logo on the receiver and in the article as well! Will this mean that Yamaha stop their THX program?

The Yamaha Parametric Room Acoustic Optimizer (YPAO) has been improved to perform down to 31.5Hz from the previous 63Hz, allowing it to work with a system’s subwoofer to create a sharper bass image.
Can't wait to see how good this works out. That has been a big complaint in the past.

When is the reveiw? sept./oct.?

wow, not I wanna sell my 1600 and get a 2700. I see they have also added a third HDMI input to the 2700. I like how you can stream music from your pc to the receiver via ethernet cable, right now I have to use my xbox 360 to do that, but at least with the 360 I get the sweet HD visualizations.

Disappointed?

This offereing doesn't seem to add any real value over the 2600 from what I can tell. An extra HDMI port an YPAO is nice, but not the kind of feature enhancement I was looking for in a next gen Yamaha ;) . If it had HDMI 1.3, I think they would have said so in the press release, as that is a huge feature (from the audio side at least). It also says nothing about new audio format support (further suggesting that there is no hdmi 1.3). Bottom line: I want new audio formats before I spend that kind of money on a receiver. I really wish Yamaha would have waited a little bit longer and worked a bit harder to released a product with REAL added value :( . As mensioned above, at least this will force a price drop on the 2600's:D .

Burr Brown- big deal
3rd HDMI- don't care
HDMI v1.3- doubtful, but we'll see
Improved YPAO- yeah, I guess that's nice

All things considered, I still have found no good reason to upgrade from my 1500.

This means no announcement for the replacement to the RX-Z9 at CEDIA?

Maybe they are waiting to get HDMI v1.3 and other goodies for a January CES announcement and a release in mid 2007?

When will they get this right:

Presence channel preouts so a guy can run 9.1 with an additional 2-channel amp. I would buy a mid level Yamaha receiver the day it came out if these preouts were included. Until then, keep trying Yamaha.

also it adds 10 watts to each model, and an ethernet port, and also ipod connectivity.

Yeah, the ethernet port thing is cool. I would use that a lot. If it has HDMI 1.3 I would buy it the first day.

let's see what the RX-V2700 can do that the 1500 can't...

Golly Gee ! I get XM radio.. the guys whose main sales point two years ago was "no advertising"...

wow. I can now take compressed, clipped, and garbled PC music and run it directly to my receiver on ethernet. what a feature !! and I can connect an I-Pod !! My music sounds like crap and it cost me fourteen hundred bucks to make this loud, but damn, am I cool !!

oh my. I get 7 (count them, there's seven) composite and S-video inputs, but have no room to fit my fingers on the speaker screws. I realize that with Blockbuster still having at least ten or so tapes in their VHS section, I would probably need at least six inputs, but not eight.

I'm speechless. I get multiple HDMI inputs with the guaranteed-to-work version 1.3 even though I could just run the HDMI directly to the TV.

Blood rushing at unbelieveable speed. With my HDMI 1.3, I might get audio nearly as clean as what already comes over a digital or fiber optic that already exists...

must find nearest defibrillator.. I get 10 more WPC from a receiver that was mathematically incapable of producing what the literature already claimed. quickly becoming overwhelmed here.

adrenaline exceeding levels allowed by Tour de France... all this for merely fourteen hundred dollars street price (which would have bought three RX-V1500s)

If the RX-V2700 is the latest and greatest, we must all bow to the greater wisdom that is Nomo...:D :D :D

man, it seems like these manufacturers turn these "new and improved" products out about once every few months. I remember when it used to be once a year (if that)!

for me, a new look would have been sufficient reason to buy this new one.

Totally agree!!!!!!!Its getting like car manufactures, lets produce a new 1 every 3 months and that way we make squillions more and 2nd hand stuff is worth nothing. I can tell u now i wont be ditching my rx-v4600 that my pioneer 50inch plas and DV-989AViS plug straight into it [bugger].
