Well my roommate is looking to spend around $2500 on a tv and he wants at least 50" and he isn't to keen on LCD. That being said, which set would you guys recommend?

Samsung HL-R5667W 56" DLP $2300 shipped from Amazon.com they have the 50" version for a few hunderd less. It's the same tv that Circuit City is selling for $2700 on sale. You could probably get the 61" version of that tv for a really good price too.

Most people who say that they don't want an LCD don't understand LCD technology. They think of their computer monitor and not the MUCH faster rear projection chips used. Rear/front projection LCD is ideal for gaming and sports while direct view LCD flat panels are often not.

I know what you mean, but he doesnt like the screen door effect that can be seen on most LCD sets & neither do i for that matter
and as much as i'd love to get a front projection setup, the room simply has to many windows & even with the blinds closed, on a sunny day there is still alot of light in the room

I have the Samsung HLR-6167W, be sure you get the R-version(R means 2005) and I absolutely love it. You can get this 61" from Best Buy, Circuit City, or Brandsmart @ $2499 -- no lie. This model is being discontinued as they probably want to focus on their 1080p.

Me either, but I noticed onecall.com has the 56" version for a little under $2300 and it comes with a mail in rebate for a free Samsung DVD recorder, and they are an authorized Samsung dealer. Rebate is good until the end of the year.
If I could not control the amount of light in the room, I too would probably pick an lcd or plasma flat panel. I think rear projection is on its way out.
