Found an interesting article on the subject "DVD vs Film" on the www.avguide.com website (Click on "The Top DVD Transfers of 2003" and scroll to the bottom). It is a well thought out article by Jonathan Valin of The Perfect Vision that has many valid points as to why the DVD format in it"s present state will never match film.

I certainly can vouch for his statement that most threatres have dismal picture quality with the sound close behind.
