Default My new Hitachi HDTV :Is DVI to HDMI OK???

I got a new TV yesterday, a Hitachi50VF820 so today i went out and got a HD cable box, hoping to hook it up with a HDMI cable. I open the box, go to hook it up and it has DVI connection, no HDMI. Is there such a thing as DVI to HDMI cable? Is it worth while to do it this way or just go component as I just got new component cables from Bluejean Cables? .

I am very new to HD. In fact, know nothing at all. I would love some advice from anyone on connections, adjustments etc..or a link to somehere I can learn this stuff.

Thanks
JC

yes they do have hdmi to dvi connectors... im not an expert either but i believe the hdmi/dvi connection would be better due to it remaining digital and not converting back to analog.... would novices like ourselves see a difference between the two????????? not sure.... one thing i do know is make sure the dvi jack on your tv is hdcp compatable(so you will be able to use your new tv with the next generation high def dvds)...i made that mistake once.

Thanks Shamus. The TV does not have DVI, the cable box does.

Is this connection still better than component???

that would seem to be the consensus on this site....personaly i use component untill i upgrade my receiver so ive never been able to experience it...... try buying one, open it carefully, test it out.....if no difference.....return it!!

I did the exact same thing with my Hitachi and my Cable box. DVI to and HDMI cable to the TV from the cable box. You will need to use an seperate audio connection. Quality of the picture was still breathtaking. You can buy DVI to HDMI cables or DVI to HDMI connectors and then just plug an HDMI to HDMI cable into that.
