NAD 2200 2-channel Amp

These amps were made around 1984 I believe. I'd like to hear anyones opinon on this amp. I have heard that they have problems due to poor solder joints on the output relays but otherwise are a terrific value if you can find one.

Are the mid 80's NAD products as good or better as todays?

I have owned 3 a 2200 and the older brother 2600 monitor series and the little brother 55 watt guy. They were very good sounding amps for their day, but they do have relay problems. All of mine suffered from this. On some models you could remove the cover on the relays and lightly clean the relay contacts with some fine sand paper and then spray them with contact cleaner. I did with two of them and got some more life. However, at the age they would be now I would stay clear of those amps. I could not find the relays back then from any electronic supply stores so I doubt you could find them now. Get and old Adcom 545 II 555 II or 535 II they are much more robust and were better sounding in my opinion then the NAD of the same period.

Some did have a relay problem, butt he ones that did not never later developed it. My NAD7600, which is the 2699 plus the tpo of line preamp, has run every day at full volume since 1988 and is as good today as whne I bought it. In fact if anyone would make an offer I would feel compfortable slling it knowibng it is first rate. At 150W tru rated and 600W into 4 ohm it is much more powerful that the new RX-V2400. I might just add it to the front two channels of the RX-V2400 and let that handle the little speakers only.
