I have a pair of Acoustic Research tower speakers that I have owned since 1987 model 58bxi that I am still very happy with.I need to replace the woofer on both and was wondering should I use an AR woofer or a different brand. The AR woofer goes for about $130.00.

Do yourself a favor... The AR speakers you own are classics! Only an AR woofer will match the crossover frequencies and exact specifications to bring your speakers back to life.  Also, if you change (1) woofer, I would suggest that you change the other working woofer to keep the speaker pair in sync.

Please also note, that these woofers will need at least 100 hours of break in time to get the best performance.

Hi
Hanks advise is very good
you also have to keep in mind that the Enclosure was tuned for the T/S  (Thiel/Small )specifications of the original woofer *
the FS and Q would be incorrect for a replacement woofer of a different type
Cheers Ray
