panasonic TH-42PHD7UY out of the box inputs. Conned by an e salesman?

Just bought a new panasonic 42" HDTV. I plan to hook up a dvd player, a direct tv box, and a playstation, all through a Yamaha RXV1500 receiver. Ideally I could connect all the above to the receiver via component and then have one component cable connection from the receiver to the tv. Thing is that the phone salesman said that I absoloutely would need a component card to add to the TV, otherwise, I'd be unable to get the set up I described above with the way the tv comes out of the box.

I am very new to this so i have no clue. Do I absolutely need the $169 component card the salesman so insisted on?

Any help will be much appreciated!!!


PS - Also: any suggestions on a dvd player? I am totally at a loss as to which one would take advantage of the TV while staying at the $200-$300 price range.

If so, then the salesman isn't lying to you. Notice from the list of inputs that it accepts RGB component video using 5 BNC connectors. It doesn't have YPrPb component inputs. The PDF link on the same page shows a terminal board ty-42tm6z that you would need to connect the componet video cables from the receiver.

I know that Panasonic and Pioneer make two different models of their plasmas - one for the consumer and one for commercial purposes. It looks like that model is the commercial version. I bet the consumer version has the right inputs and the model number is likely to be the same but without the 'Y' at the end.

I just programmed 4 7UY series plasmas. 2 42" models, 2 50" models. Both had 5 BNC input which we hooked up via component without any problems at all. Not sure if it was stock... they could have been ordered cards as I did not place the order.

But, I would double check the inputs that are stock on it. I am pretty sure that it should not be necessary.

My solution when I bought this model from DTVcity was to purchase the below cable in addition to the component to component cable. I avoided having to purchase the additional blade.

Hope that cable didn't run you more than 80 bucks or so for a 2 meter version... That's about the most I would pay.

Lesser expensive ones can be had as well for under 20 bucks that will do the job.
