Default VGA converter suggestions.

I want to conect my computer vga out put to my lcd tv wich has a component input and supports up to 1080i resolution (but my tv is only 600x 480 so it down converts the signal). I also want to connect my ps2 to my computer monitor. Do i need to get a converter box or can i get one of those cables that have a component connection on one end and a vga on the other? Is there a way i can connect my ps2 to my pc monitor (wich supportsup to 1024x768 resoltion) and have it upconvert the vidoe to the max resolution of my monitor so that games will look beter. Can some one also please give me some links on where to read about this stuff. Thanks

Scan converters and processors are available from companies like www.extron.com and run the range of cost. Nothing is really cheap, and doing so really doesn't make sense. The PS2 is a video format, so put it on a video display, not a data display, you will have the best results. Likewise, your computer is a data display device and that low-res lcd is not designed to work with it.

No simple 'cable' is going to change the format, you need a full-blown converter to take it from VGA down to component or from component up to VGA. That means you should expect to spend about 500 bucks to take it either direction - up or down - and the results won't be pretty coming down, and only so-so going up.

That's 500 bucks better spend on a display designed to handle both video and data like an inexepsive 42" plasma.

Get a All In Wonder ATI card for your computer. You can input and output just about any signal with very good to great results. Including component RGB, DVI, Composite and S-Video. The bare minimum to get is a ATI AIW 9600XT, Better would be a ATI AIW 9800 Pro, Best would be a ATI AIW X 800XT. The cost for each is about 179, 198, 330. And they will all do what you want and with better than normal results. They all have component blocks for inputs and outputs, and all will accept and send the signals I put above. There are also pluses with these, the 9600 and X800 will also do fm radio signals, and they all will also connect to a coax cable to watch tv over the pc if wanted. And a simple program included will also download for a weekly tv program chart. (Just like a tv guide) Plus they all have a remote control, that can be used for various functions. Including but not limited to MP3 players, DVD players, Windows Media Player, etc... The remotes are RF, which means they can be used through walls. The X800 has dual DVI, the 9600 and 9800 I believe have single DVI with a vga connector/adapter. All three cards are up to date with EVERY single computer game out there, and will play them all fine. With inputs, yes you can use your X-Box or PS.
You can record or pause live tv, or a vcr signal. Also they support all resolutions that are known to man. Any more questions on any of these, please don't hesitate to ask. I have had 2 of the 3. And plan on getting the third.

The new graphics card for the PC is the way to go, it will do everything you wanted it to and it will improve the overall performance of you computer. Also with it you can turn your PC in a DVR, we use this all the time in college and it can record at excelent quality, though it is limited to the quality of the connecting you're inputing. Thats my vote, new graphics card.

so will this just letterbox the HD resolutions on your 4:3 LCD Screen? B/c if so that sounds like a pretty good/cheap HD solution if you already have an LCD monitor. $60 to make it support HD.
