Default Why so Green?

I just noticed that my rear projection TV has suddenly turned green, or very yellow, can't really tell. I tried to go in and re-tune to the home video CD that i have but i don't get much tuning going on for color, contrast, tint, etc. Then i went in to convergence, YIKES, I move things around to hit the cross but nothing seems to be out of line until I close the menu and now I see severe ghosting, trial and error to get that back in line and I still see green/yellow. Can someone give me a guess as to what went out lamp, RGB unit. I called my local Stereo "guy" he said it would cost $300 to come out and "configure" but that seems like money down the toilet at this point. The Crosley unit I have is probably 8 years old now and it isn't an HD unit, so is it really worthwhile? I have always said when this thing goes out I am getting a HD unit, but I dont want to jump to conclusions.

Thanks

Crosley unit? I've never heard of it......................don't know that I'd want to pay someone to calibrate an 8 YO, non-HD set, especially if it has possible repair issues.

Perhaps it's time to treat yourself to a new set.........

You might first try a calibration disc like AVIA or DVE. They do have screens to adjust color and come with color filters to help you do it. I would try that first as it is a $40 attempt to solve the problem. If you can't get it looking right, then you can consider getting a technician to look at it or think about upgrading.

I would first reset to factory defaults and then do the calibration.

Good info, the crosley unit is actually a souped up Philips unit. As for the calibration CD, been there done that, Sound and Vision version. I can't get anything to look right whereas I used it before and was able to nail the settings. Someone told me that a color gun either went out or needs to be fixed. Again, questioning how much money to throw into an older unit with a $1500 HD sitting at BB waiting for me.

I had a similar problem develop with my JVC system. It is a CRT based rear projector and all of a sudden it started displaying everything with a really caustic looking green tint. It was especially noticable on the first Lord of the Rings movie, when they were in the mines of Moria. Anyhow, JVC sent one of their techs out to look at it, but I was conveniently not at home and my landlord let him in to sort it out so I cant really tell you what my issue was. The service manager that sent the tech out did tell me that they had seen a few instances of this happening with similar models to mine and that it was the projector housing, although I do not think she was using the correct terminology. Anyhow, they came out and that problem got sorted. Now it is starting to develop some issues with black reproductions. I was about to chuck this one in and upgrade it for one of their new D-ila units, but they only make those for the US market right now, and I am still here in Germany (want a muti-system).

My "stereo guy" told me to unplug the unit to reset the processor and it is certainly better now. The only strange thing is that on the convergence setting there are 2 colors to move to the white cross and the blue shows up fine but what ever the other color is supposed to be, it doesn't show at all, I think it is red becuase when i move it, blindly I might add, and go back to view, there is a red shadow on everything. I have been able to get the color and tint to adjust now, darn the luck, i had already picked out a new set
