Default 7 Pounds

I couldn't sleep last night and went and turned the TV on at about in wee hours of the morning. 7 Pounds was just coming on. I had thought about watching it, but always caught it in the middle. I thought I'd watch a little then head for an hour or two back to bed before my day started. I ended up watching the whole movie.

I know this flick was panned pretty badly, but I thought it was a great flick... a really great flick. It's certainly not happy or uplifting... at least not in a tradiitional way, but the dark place Smith's character is in was just very compelling to watch. I thought it depicted a true sense of despair that may be entirely unique to an individual. It captured something and I have to admit there were more than a couple of times where I had tears welling up in my eyes. I found the movie took me to a sad place but did so in an empathetic way.

I'm not a movie critic so I don't really know how to explain it correctly. I asked around today and no one saw it. All I got was, "I heard it wasn't very good." Odd because it was one of the best movies I've seen in awhile.

Then again, I thought Hancock was a pretty good movie too.

You've just got a little Will Smith crush thats all.

In all seriousness I thought the movie was ok but not as bad as some of the reviews I read. I won't see it again but I don't feel I wasted 2 hours.

Maybe I do have a crush! I didn't think about that.

I don't know... maybe I was just tired or having sympathy hormones with my wife and daughter... I don't know. The movie just hit a nerve with me I guess. I like movies that capture a human condition when it's done very well and sorda sucks you in with the character.

I thought it was a pretty good movie, and it didn't hurt looking at Rosario either.

All sick and washed out like that ???

I didn't know it was considered to be a bad movie. I really liked it a lot. The way the story unfolded and the acting I thought were great. I liked Hancock too. The superhero back story with them having chosen different paths was cool. Okay, it wasn't Iron Man but what is?

I thought about this a little more and this is what I've come up with:

There's entertaining movies... action, comedy, etc. Then there good movies that really aren't entertaining. Passion of the Christ was a great movie, but I wouldn't cal it entertaining... in any way. In fact, I was more than a little disturbed by it for a couple of weeks. There's those movies that you grab a box of Goobers and some popcorn to sit down and watch and get entertained and other movies you just sorda watch for some other reason. I guess I would call 7 Pounds a character driven movie. The entire movie is really about this dark place Smith's character had found himself in. Everythinjg else is almost ancilliary.
