I like when audio is described in words relating to food or colors, etc. "They had a buttery sound to them, and were light and airy." Sounds like a good pancake to me.

I read about some piece of equipment that was described as sounding 'chocolaty'. Yeah?

Maybe it was made by Linn- they're Swiss, right?

Algebraic subtraction of signals to measure the difference is a common method we used in the lab. It also works for comparing JPEG photo renderings to the raw and TIFF versions. Simply invert the data of one and superimpose on the original. If you get a grey square, they're the same. If you see various patterns, that's the distortion.

In doing a lot of acoustic work on my studio, and making daily measurements, I can tell you that the position of a door will have very obvious effects on the response of the room. Just moving some pieces of insulation around affect the response. Heck, I suspect even the humidity level and temperature affect room response in subtle ways.

If you consider ALL factors, air density has to matter.

There is this place called the deep end.

What really matters is that you enjoy your system. Who cares what anyone else thinks. If you want to use magic cables go ahead. Scientifically they aren't necessary, but if they look cool then it's worth it IMO.

Looks do matter. I mean you wouldn't marry an ugly partner would you?

It's the pursuit of perfection - eliminating all possible variables to get at the truth!

......but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, at least that's what I've heard...from my old lady. A few times.

Why not just ask them if they also replaced the cheap wires that lead from the speaker connects to the speakers...

Oh don't tell my wife that otherwise she would have never married me

I don't care about the cable cosmetics- mine are hidden and that's the way I like them.

Wait- if what others thought about peoples' systems wasn't important, why is there ANY kind of thread for showing off systems?

Re: "Looks do matter. I mean you wouldn't marry an ugly partner would you?", how many times have we all heard "Why can't men love a woman for her personality?"?

Well, let me think about that.
How ugly is ugly? How is she in bed and with the check book? How much $$$$ does she make? Is she amenable to plastic surgery?
