Default Digital Audio from Cable Box

On my cable system, digital channels are at 80 and above. If I am watching a DVD and my Tivo is recording a digital channel, the sound from the cable station punches through the receiver, superceding the DVD soundtrack, even though the receiver is set to DVD. So, now I'm watching a DVD but hearing the digital cable station. This does not happen if the station is below 80.

The cable company set up their box with a coaxial cable running from the cable box digital out to the receivers digital in. Is this what causes this problem? Any suggestions from anyone?
