Many thanks. I wasn't previously aware of those sites - I'll check. Typical to miss a set of them by days!

    Wanted: ScanSpeak 21W/8554-00

If anyone has one (or two) of the yellow/black Kevlar ScanSpeak 21W/8554-00 drivers I'd be interested in purchasing it/them. UK or EU preferred, but given they're long out of production I'd consider further afield if the seller were willing to do the shipping.

    Baffle step/roundover question

Love your speakers above. Very nice. Yes, a reasonable radius on those. The second image, well, I'd describe that more of a 'torpedo'. I've knocked up similar prototypes (balls etc.) but the size required for the speakers I'm wanting to mod would be too big for my room. Off topic: having just...

    Baffle step/roundover question

That's a fair point. As I understand it, the smoother the rounding (larger radii), the smoother the step in amplitude across the baffle step. Because creating passive filters (in crossovers) is easier when the filter slope is shallow, it's easier to compensate for such baffle steps. How bad...

    Baffle step/roundover question

Thanks all for the responses. I kinda suspected that the baffle width was the baffle width (basically ignoring the round over). My motives behind the mod are mostly to experiment with a cabinet with curved walls, but didn't want to mess with the existing crossover, so I was wondering what I...

    Baffle step/roundover question

Hoping there's a baffles expert around! I understand that having a large radius on the edges of a baffle reduces diffraction effects. I also understand that the "half space/full space" radiation transition frequencies are related to the distance of a driver from baffle edges (simplification...

    Amp advice for sub drivers?

[This may be better in the Amps, Pre-Pros & Receivers section, but it is specifically about sub drivers, so hoping to find the bass freaks here] I have a set of four Peerless XLS10 P830452 drivers (4Ohm version) that I've had kicking round for a few years. A pair of them have been sitting in...

Dual XLS10... to port or not to port...

...and other questions... I have a set of four Peerless XLS10 4 Ohm (830452) drivers. I've been running a pair in a 40 litre (1.4 cu ft) sealed enclosure. The drivers are mounted on opposing faces of the box, wired in series to create an 8 Ohm load, and have been run off an Alesis RA500 amp...

    Material to wrap mineral wool

I was recommended 'batting', sometimes called 'wadding'. In thin sheets, it's like a rough white wool (though I'd guess it's probably polyester, or some other man-made material). Worked well for wrapping some rockwool. I used spray adhesive, and stuck the batting to the panels.

    UN-Official Formula 1 Thread

Not sure I'm seeing that. The BBC coverage showed the drivers (Jenson/Ruebens/Mark) chatting before they went out for the podium. Ruebens just seemed a bit disappointed as to how his car was handling towards the end of the race, and Jenson appeared pretty sincere in his consolation (as I think...

    UN-Official Formula 1 Thread

I guess it'll be attached to a central section of the wheel hub (the discs spin with the nut as the pit crew puts on the new wheel). The purpose is to further affect the aerodynamics and general airflow around the wheel. My guess is that it'll be smoothing the airflow, in order to help other...

    I don't understand...

A very good post. If you're referring to the release of military field manuals; I caught a news program a couple of days ago where an ex-CIA guy was noting that the information contained was freely available and known anyway (i.e. it wouldn't be giving the 'bad guys' anything they didn't...

    I don't understand...

This is a very good point - and one that's unlikely to be solved with just a few forum posts! I would say that I think the concept of good and evil is too simplistic, too black and white. Many far right figures push this idea that "those guys over there" are evil, and we're the good guys...

    UN-Official Formula 1 Thread

Interesting article going into some detail of what the diffuser row is all about (and how the loophole was exploited): http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8003667.stm

Diffusers ruled legal http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7996698.stm Looking forward to the outcome of this - hopefully the other teams will appear with new diffusers soon, and we'll see the competition increasing. Not before JB gets a few more wins though, I hope :)...

    Alice In Chains!!!!

Yea. Badmotorfinger is amazing. Also produced by Terry Date in that year was the Dropped album by Mindfunk I mentioned. Also very bassy. Never got into the Superunknown album when it was released, but it's now probably my favourite - though Screaming Life/Fopp and Louder Than Love are great...

    Alice In Chains!!!!

Just slightly. Many would claim they were the pioneers of grunge (or at least brought it to the mainstream). Obviously, there were many others before them (some listed in this thread), and I'm always amazed by how much Green River sound like Nirvana to me... which is ironic, as there was always...

    Alice In Chains!!!!

You're welcome. Of those, my favourites are Mother Love Bone, the Temple of the Dog album, and Brad (especially the first album 'Shame'). There's also the Sub Pop album, and "The Grunge Years" disc to check out. It's not obvious at first, but listen to the vocals on Hunger Strike -...

    Alice In Chains!!!!

Lots of great bands (and offshoots/side projects) listed in this thread. Some others to try: Green River (Jeff Ament & Stone Gossard - now Pearl Jam, Mark Arm - now Mudhoney) Malfunkshun (Regan Hagar, Andrew Wood (deceased) - former roommate of Chris Cornell) Mother Love Bone (Ament &...
