From reading the forums, it seems most have been happy with the Audio Insider. The one thing that I read that stands out in my mind is they charge your credit card before items are shipped, even if they are backordered. That is something I would check on.

I guess we read the graph differently. Anechoic sensitivity is 89dB. 3dB down would be 86dB, which looks pretty close to the 58hz mark, which is the -3dB anechoic spec. The cabinetry on the X-LSs do look very nice, as do all AV123 product. The cost of cabinets is certainly an advantage...

You've lost me on the numbers you are using. Anechoic or in-room? Also lost on the +/-3dB vs -3dB. Also there is no comparable graph for the X-LS. Then again, you heard them, so the numbers really don't mean anything.

I don't recall reading about any problems with less expensive receivers driving 170's when I was doing my research.

Out of curiosity, how much was shipping?

As far as the printed specs go, there is only a 4hz difference in the low end between the X-LS encore and 170SE. Maybe the low end is boosted a bit on the encore?

How do you feel about the speaker otherwise?

As a follow up, I just came across the latest Rocket sale. If you like their sound, it is a great deal. That is a good thing about Rockets/AV123, if you are patient, you can get a great deal. One thing though, I don't ever recall them requiring a deposit before.

It means at 55hz it is -6dB from its sensitivity rating, and at 32hz it is even farther down. In other words, it does not play very deep, but it is probably a bookshelve speaker and you wouldn't expect it to.
