Michael Bay wins the Format War

Is anyone really suprised? The guy is not an idiot. Ultimate success with either format sits with studio support. From the begining blu ray had more support. It didn't make a bit of difference that one looked or performed better. Bottom line: Idiot no, Egocentric, without a doubt. Keep...

    video processing

Do we really need video processing by receivers? YES/NO? WHY? I have spent a great deal of money to purchase HD players,PVR's, PC's and even projectors that are known to process effectively. Why do we want recievers to do anything other that sending a video signal to the...

    What do really need?

Let's say there is a reason I frequent audioholics.com. Audio quality is extremely important. The Onyko 805 has the audio chops. I'm just wondering if is worth an additional $1000 or more to add video processing that may not be useful. At this time I have a blu ray player, AVR on which I...

    What do really need?

Side note: where do you guys get 480i signals. Everything my DVD player or avr puts out has been 480p(according to my projector). Is the take home message here: that the video processing in these receivers is generally not helpful? or am I reading this wrong?

Ask Dr. A! Of Projectors and 1080p

The Panasonic projector is due out by Oct with an increase in contrast and equiv lumen output then the 900. Or maybe an increase in lumen but equiv contrast. Either way 1080p with similar numbers to the ae900 sounds great! We shall see!

    VERY telling review of HD-DVD

I'm sure you already understand he difference between 540p and 1080i. Your comment here confused me. To say that the DAC's are scaling to 1080i first is interesting. 1080i looks the same as 540p to the DAC's. In ,ost cases it is what your end product does with it that will decide if interlacing...

    VERY telling review of HD-DVD

I think this comment was to me. You do realize you ultimately agreed w/ me , don't you? Considering my current set-up, it doesn't make sense to buy a HD DVD player. And this applies to the majority. Therefore when the dust settles upgrade the player when I up-grade my PT AE900u to something...

    VERY telling review of HD-DVD

I support that! I'm guessing alot more feel the same way. I am disappointed at the limitations and disappointed that these companies are too greedy to make a decision that is in the best interest of the consumers. My recommendation to you is to keep your 110+ and buy a nice home theater...

Toshiba HD DVD player got delivered today

Do the dvd's have any labels on them stating limitation with non-digital connectivity? I'm curious to know how many of the movie studios are going to block the true high def signal from anything other than the DVI/HDMI input/output. Either way...have fun! Nothing like new toys.
