Are there any maintenance needed for a 22 year old Solid-State Power Amplifier and Pre-Amp?

I'm grateful for those experts and their contributions to the thread. However, other 'experts' can recommend that they be tested.

The electrolytic capacitors should be checked and possibly replaced after 22 years of service. Especially the power supply caps.

    Outlaw's Rocking Again!

My (Class D topology) Crown XLS Series II 1502 connected to my separate pre-amp sounds great. Good value per dollar.

    Outlaw's Rocking Again!

Just about anyone I know that has a passion for this hobby believe that Class AB amplification does sound better musically(SQ) than the Class D counterparts. Yeah, I know.

    Outlaw's Rocking Again!

....after several prolonged listening sessions we all concluded that to our ears, there is still something that remains intangibly smoother when audio is reproduced with Class AB amplification. Perform the listening sessions again only this time perform them blind. ;)

Amplifier recommendation for a novice audiophile

yamaha S700 beats that crappy Onkyo hands down in every important way What are the important ways that your device is superior over the other device? In determining your assertion, what types of objective scientific testing procedures did you perform between these two models? And over what...

Amplifier recommendation for a novice audiophile

Griff, instead of using a separate power amp and preamp such as the Crown power amp I suggested, here's a great AV receiver that includes a phono input as well. Purchasing just one device might be the better choice for you...

Amplifier recommendation for a novice audiophile

Hello, I would look into the Crown XLS Series II 1502 power amp. Plenty of power and good value per dollar.

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

When I auditioned the B&W 800D & 802D at the dealer, they were powered by Classe amps. I could hear the hiss noise clearly from 3 feet away. Interesting. I own a Classe amp from the 90's and the only noise I hear is very slight hum if I place my ear directly against the speaker, otherwise, the...

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

In regard to the blind test with Parasound amps and Crown XPS Series amps and the noise floor being higher with the Parasound, I would think it should have been the other way around due to the fact that the Crown XLS Series amps are 'Pro' amps designed for PA and not music. I'm a little...

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

That ATI AT6002 is a beautiful amp. It looks very well made too. I can't help but wonder what the outcome would be when performing a volume level-matched double-blind test between the ATI and a Denon or Yamaha AV receiver?

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

Hello Irvrobinson, I don't understand your rain dance analogy when it comes to volume level-matched double-blind listening tests with audio components.

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

Interesting, thank you for your clarification. It proves that just because a component is considered "audiophile", it doesn't always mean it is superior. Long live blind testing.

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

I got rid of my Parasound HCA 1000's and replaced them both with a $179 Crown XLS 402D because they had a higher noise floor. Great, I've always liked the newer Crown XLS Series II amps. This confirms that you really can hear differences in SS amps. Thanks, jinjuku.

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

Yes, I have been able to hear differences between a tube amp and a placebo ss amp in a blind test. Both amps were functioning properly. The differences were small but very distinct. Try telling that to a few radical objectivist overloads from other audio forums. They would have nothing to do...

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

There are a few militant audio objectivists out there that come to mind that would be having a fit with your last statement.

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

Objectivists - Unsighted, volume level-matched listening evaluations has proven that audible differences between SS amps are non-existent. Subjectivists - Sighted, volume level-matched listening evaluations has proven that subtle audible differences between SS amps do exist.
