Enter to Win: SB12-Plus from SVS – Canadian Residents Only

Currently have sub placed on left side beside seating position (corner), this creates a small hump @ approx. 60 Hz. Would like to place it on front wall to smooth out response but room is small and other seating currently occupies this space.

Enter to Win: Roomate HTPC from VidaBox!

Crash While I loath big box retailers for pc purchases, a brick and mortar location is easier to return to. With a pc's notorious ability to croak at the wrong time a place to get it fixed is a must. While arguing with a BB sales person is probably no more effective than endless emails to...

Enter to Win: PB10-NSD from SVS!

Proper subwoofer placement gets you in the ballpark for flat frequency response. (OTHER) Parametric eq allows you to take multiple readings from different seating positions and apply a "best" frequency response (not necessarilyy flat) for those positions. I beleive an auto eq allows for only one...

Enter to Win: STF-2 Sub from Hsu!

HSU SUB Contest Additional Wood Veneers - custom wood veneer matching (like paint matching) would be a nice way to get around WAF in subwoofers of this size Matched Speakers - a company that makes subs of this caliber should make excellent homogeneous bookshelf speakers to compliment their...

    Enter to Win: Onix X-sub

Product Wish I would like a simple 5 band parametric eq. All 5 bands in the subwoofers operating range with an upper and lower shelf. No memories, no extras except for a calibration cd with bass test tones. Subwoofers are generally set and forget. 1 band is great for room modes but 5 is better...

Enter to Win: Pair of x-ls Bookshelf Speakers from AV123!

A nice deep coloured wood finish (cherry) with a nice grain. Double blind tests are done so that the better looking speaker isn't picked for it's visual appeal. I think this is works to you're advantage at home. Sweet sounding, sweet looking loudspeaker = great listening experince.

Enter to Win: Onix X-sub from AV123

At 11' by 11.5', my home theater room is relatively easy to fill with bass. Accurate bass is much more important than 1 note boom. However, as I am married, aesthetics is a very close second. It's hard to enjoy deep accurate bass if there is the constant shrill noise of you're significant other...

Enter to Win: Rives Audio Test CD 2

Rugrats With a small child running around the house speaker placement is less than optimal. Bookshelf speakers are all placed high and angled toward listening position. Subwoofer is in a corner under an end table (hidden). Next tool may be some kind of paremetric eq to aid subwoofer.

    DIY Speaker Isolation

As I am not a pot smoking, dorm dwelling college student any suggestions of bungee cords or hanging bags is not pratical. I beleive I have found a solution in of all places a home decore magazine. A designer used pieces of floor to ceiling mdf cut with wavy edges to make a plain wall appear 3...

    Receiver Output Measurment

What I'm looking for is a simple, yet accurate way of knowing a receivers power output with any source material. I believe my problem is wanting SIMPLE and ACCURATE as even manufacturers can't agree on how to measure power output.

    Receiver Output Measurment

Thanks for the suggestions on how to do this but I have decided that I want more information about what is going on with the amps in receivers. After reading the post in this thread that said old Pioneer receivers had V.U. meters I got thinking. Most pro gear has V.U. meters on amps to give a...

    Receiver Output Measurment

Receiver Output Lets put it this way. Given an 8 ohm loudspeaker with a power handling capability of 60 watts RMS and a receiver rated 100 W per channel, min. RMS @ 8 ohms - 40 Hz to 20 kHz @ 0.8 total harmonic distortion and volume numbers 0-50 can you equate a volume number to 60 watt RMS...

    Receiver Output Measurment

I do believe you guys are missing the point. I do not wish to find the absolute power a receiver will put out. What I want to do is equate the arbitrary volume number displayed with an output wattage. Perhaps having access to a sound pressure meter and the manufacturers data fo speakers it would...

    Receiver Output Measurment

Receiver Output Measurement Trying to relate volume display on receiver to actual wattage put out. Yes I am aware that as speaker impedence changes with frequency so does output. Figure that given a specific, continuous impedence output should be as manufacturer states. Plus, why does an...

Would my sub benefit from a parametric eq?

Sub EQ I use a Rane parametric EQ and the Revel subwoofer optimizer program from Revel loudspeakers. The program is a free download and it tells you frequency, q, and cut. I run it twice to get 5 bands of EQ. +/- 3db over subs range after using.

    Monopole Surround Placement

I am looking for opinions on a common surround placement problem. With limited space my couch is directly against the back wall on which the surrounds are placed. There is no option of putting them on side walls. Speakers are direct radiating. While I know this is less than an ideal situatuion...
