Actually, you'd be surprised at how much bass that most people hear and love comes from 50-80 hz. Below that is mostly things rattling in your room.

A while back, everyone was raving about the JBL LRS305 mkII. I guess they've fallen completely out of favor. I like them a lot. (But if you want to hear them at loud levels, you need to brace the flimsy cabinets. Not to pick on JBL but most couple hundred dollar speakers have chintzy cabinets...

If soundstage is one of your problems, watch this video then. What don't you like about them? You say they sound "thin". It has a 6.5" woofer and specs say it should go down to 40HZ (not unreasonable). Do you have them in a too large room?
