Update: I tried pretty much everything I could think of and so did my brother. Today he suggested that we hook up the audio from the PS3 to the receiver with RCA's and call it a day. So that's what we did. Surround sound is now working again with the PS3. Thank you.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure how that is possible. I have a 2->1 RCA cable in the CD slot so I can use my ipod on the surround sound. For the PS3 I am using an HDMI cord to the tv and then there is an HDMI cord + an RGB cord that also goes from the monitor to the receiver. I am not sure...

CD mode - Surround sound works properly DTV mode - Surround sound works properly DVD mode - No surround sound, but sound works properly through the tv. So I do get sound, just not surround sound. Also, as a side note, if I turn the receiver volume up really high, I can hear sound from the DTV...

I was able to turn my rear speaker volume up today as soon as I had my tv on the right setting, so I was able to view the receiver menu there. :) Thanks for your help!

I have a Yamaha receiver (RX V4600), which I've had for many years and can't remember how to turn up the rear speaker volume. They are way too quiet compared to the front speakers. I have read my manual and have asked my friend who has 3 Yamaha receivers and the problem still hasn't been fixed...
