I would say it depends on how often you use your sub. We only use our Velodyne once a week if that so I always shut it off after using it. If I used it daily or 3-4 times per week I would just leave it in auto.

I have an old Velodyne SPL-1000 in black oak that I'm very happy with. I bought it new in 2001 and for the first time last year it failed. I sent the amp back to Velodyne and they repaired (replaced?) it for $230 with a 1 year warranty. Great small sub with lots of power and goes down to 24 Hz...

I found my manual today, receipts, etc. for my old V-100. The only thing I'll add to Tom V's post is the age of the sub. I bought it new towards the end of 1991. I'll be replacing the sub soon. There's was also a V-90 with 90W RMS with similar specs as the V-100 except it's slightly smaller.

Congrats on your new sub! I'm also considering purchasing the SB12-NSD. I like its size and power and it supposed to provide tight bass which I prefer. Do you have the piano black or vinyl? I would choose the vinyl because the sub won't be visible in the room. But, I'm not sure what a black...

For a new sub I plan on spending about $500 - $650.

I checked with Rythmik and they only sell the plate amps with their drivers. Looks like I'm back to Dayton Audio. Their SPA250 does have a switch to turn on/off the bass boost at 35hz.

Thanks Jeff R. I started looking at BASH plate amps, which led me to O Audio. Their web site says as of 2013 they've closed up shop. I've also begun looking at Rythmik Audio which looks promising.

The amp on my old M&K V-100 subwoofer died and I'm considering just replacing the plate amp. Has anyone used Dayton Audio plate amps and what do you think of it? Any other suggestions for plate amps? Thanks.
