I would like to personally thank everyone here for your useful advice. In the end, I managed to get myself a good conditioned used plasma LG 50pk550 at less than $400. And i must say... The motion perf, natural and very nice toned colors was a very huge step up from the mid range led/lcd...

is it true that the newer Panny plasmas have anti burn-in panels as compared to Samsung plasmas? Some sales person told me this and I was a bit doubtful

Home theatre - Plasma or LED better? Which is more suitable for my setup?
Thanks my friend, that was helpful for me to understand. Have 3 quick queries: 1) Would plasmas with anti-reflective coating help to overcome the reflection issue as well as getting a LED/LCD? Understand that some models do have this. With the anti-reflection, my worry is that this would also...

Home theatre - Plasma or LED better? Which is more suitable for my setup?
Thanks BMXTRIX! :) Could you help to elaborate more on the "daytime 'less than perfection' issues" that I would potentially face based on my layout? Are you referring to the light and reflection from the windows that I would potentially see on my plasma? But say for e.g. if im seated in the...

Home theatre - Plasma or LED better? Which is more suitable for my setup?
Oh.... Are there plasmas with anti-reflective coating? Sorry for asking this basic question cos all along I thought plasma were all reflective panels. If it is then it would be good for me! haha :D

Home theatre - Plasma or LED better? Which is more suitable for my setup?
Thanks warrior and westcott! Yes rotating it would make sense for the SQ. But unfortunately due to cosmetic and wife reasons, I guess the existing layout has to stay. And I have to make the best out of it.

Emotiva UMC1 users, need your advice on whether to upgrade my Yammy AVR
Thanks for the advice Peng. My listening preferences are 55%/40%/5% = 5.1 concerts/5.1 movies/stereo music. Yes I stock up good bluray and DVD movies and concerts. :) Actually u just pointed out a good point that the 1900 is actually a respectable pre, and seriously I have used a few low-mid...

Emotiva UMC1 users, need your advice on whether to upgrade my Yammy AVR
Thanks josko. Yes I went around to ask and read on umc1. Apparently the bug hit rate is quite high. There is a group that didnt experience any problems though, but still the feedback is quite disturbing esp when I do not have an emotiva agent locally in Singapore here. Possible alternatives...

New speakers for a novice
Concentrate your monies on better front and centre speaker as those are the key speakers that will make a bigger diff. Spend less on the surrounds. Later on as your budget goes up, u can slowly upgrade your surrounds.

To stick to your budget, you can go for monoprice cables. If you can get your hands on terminated belden/canare speaker cabels, go for it.

Emotiva UMC1 users, need your advice on whether to upgrade my Yammy AVR
Hi friends, Currently I am using a Yamaha RX-V1900 AVR in my HTS. Recently, I got my hands on a used good-condition Rotel 1095 power amp (200wpc), and so far very happy with the improved sound. Was thinking about the next steps on whether to upgrade my AVR to a more dedicated processor as...

Looking for bookshelf speakers around 300$ range
+1 for the Cambridge S30. I have owned the S30, SL30 and S20, and I must say it can easily compete with speakers 2 times the price to $500 range. Very clean bass, and pleasant sounding. Clear and not too bright.

Recommendations for upgrade: to have fuller but fast and crisp sound
Jim and friends, having some mixed feelings here. Can I check with you. Some of my local friends were saying that, if I go for modded S30/S70 + a S50 centre, the sound performance may drop as compared to keeping my B&W705 and Infinity PC351 centre. Esp if I were to add power amps in future...

Appreciate Jim. Can u help to share the reason to choose the S30 over the S50 for centre? Is the build/design of S30 better than S50? Also, for S70, my only worry is that I havent seen much reviews on it. Not sure if the speaker box build chasis is as good as the S30?
