    SVS PB-1000 & SB-1000 Powered Subwoofers Preview

HSU Comparison So which HSU sub is the PB 1000 most comparable to? I was ready to pull the trigger on a vtf-2 until I saw this. I spoke with someone at SVS and they said it would be equivalent to the vtf-2. If that's the case, I would go with this and save the $83. Not sure if it matters but...

Subwoofer Thanks, that seems like a good option. If you had to pick a sub for less than $400, which would you choose? Not sure I want to spend the $600+ on one.

Sorry, I meant the HSU STF-2. Edited my post while you were posting the reply.

Sub Woofer Question Ok, so based on all the recommendations from you all, I have decided on the Ascend 200's for my front's and surrounds. I will use the Ascend 340 for my center channel. This puts me at $864 shipped, without the sub. I understand that most of you are recommending $600+...

Thanks to everyone yet again. Great advice all around. Jeff - when I say I am confused, it's be of my ignorance on all of this and not knowing exactly which way to go, not bc of the great advice. If I buy your speakers and the hsu sub, I am already just over budget. And i don't have the rear...

Do i just do something you mentioned early on? Hybrid 2 3.1. Then add some small/ cheap satellites for the rear? I believe I am left with $200 for the rears. Again I know it's not perfect, and maybe this isn't the right compromise setup, but what about something like this? Or something like it?

    Home Theater Recommendation

Ok thanks for the honesty. So if I shouldn't go ascend 200 or 170 and I can't do towers and I can't afford the ascend 340, what can I do? I realize it may not be ideal but given the parameters what is my best option? I know I won't be getting the perfect sounding setup for my space but...

My Call to Ascend Thanks for the additional options. I called into Ascend and they are telling me that if I can't afford the 340's, I should get the 170's over the 200's for my fronts. She was pretty adamant that this was the way to go. What do you make of this?

    Home Theater Recommendation

Thank you both for the offers. Jeff, I am going to have to think about this. To be honest with you, I am pretty wary of buying used. Not bc I don't trust you, its just that I don't know if this reduction in price is worth it for me vs. the sure bet of buying new. I know its a big discount...

    Home Theater Recommendation

ok, great. I am feeling much better now. So if I go new, I should go with the 200's in the front and center. Based on that and my Onkyo 515 what do you suggest on the Sub? Rears? Not likely that I will go the used route, but wanted to know what you would do. New 200's or used 340's...

    Home Theater Recommendation

Ascend So it seems like everyone really likes the Ascends. My follow up question is, given my room size and budget should I go with the 200's or 170's for the front and centers? I don't think I am going to be able to swing it on new 340's. Based on the answer above, do you still recommend...

Wow thank you all. So i wasn't aware of the porting issues. I can really design the media center and cabinets however I want. That being said should i go 340's over the 200's? If so how much room around them is ideal? The Ascend site notes that the 200's are for very small rooms. Would...

One other item. I have an old Cambridge soundworks bass cube 10. Is this something I can use in this room? My preference was to buy a new sub but can use this and spend more on the other speakers if it's a better bet. My gut tells me that that sub isn't high quality.

We are having a built in media center with but in cabinets next to it put in the wall our tv will be. I planned on customizing a shelf on the cabinets to fit the fronts and center. This installation will take up most of that wall and really leave no room for floor standing speakers. I could...
