    Yamaha rx-v373 or Denon 1513?

I have a 5.1 setup of the Pioneer speakers by Andrew Jones and I am looking to upgrade to a new entry level receiver around $250 solely to power my speakers. I am currently thinking about going with either the Yamaha rx-v373 or the Denon 1512. I want the receiver with the best reliability and...

Why does my center channel sound harsh?

I did. I even bought new speaker wire for the front and center channels and it made no difference.

Why does my center channel sound harsh?

I had previously been using an older Sony str-de845 receiver with jbl sat10 speakers and about a year ago I noticed that the center channel sounded harsher than it used to. I thought that the speakers were going so I purchased a 5.0 set of the Pioneer speakers designed by andrew jones and my...

Buying used vs. new power amp and receiver?

I have seen many good deals for 5 channel power amps on ebay from reputable brands. I think I would be safe no matter what on ebay because of their free buyer protection policy.

Buying used vs. new power amp and receiver?

At some point down the road I want to buy a receiver with pre-outs and a power amp. Buying both together new would be very expensive and I see that I can save quite a bit of money buying these items used. When buying a receiver with pre-outs or pre-amp and a power amp for home theater, is it...

Not sure if I should return my speakers

My room dimensions are 10.5' x 18' x 6.5'. I primarily watch movies and don't turn the volume up that loud. I would say I listen at roughly 80dB from 6ft away. I just noticed that one of my floor standers has 3 small nicks on the top edge of the speaker. It is not that noticeable unless you...

Not sure if I should return my speakers

My receiver is sitting on an open table with space around it and nothing on top of it.

Not sure if I should return my speakers

The cooling fan could work. My receiver can run the Pioneer speakers fine with the crossover set to 90hz. It's just that the receiver starts to get really warm when it is trying to supply that additional power to the floorstanders for the lower frequencies when I run them full range. I think...

Not sure if I should return my speakers

Because I don't have money for a subwoofer and I can just exchange the speakers I have for some different ones until I do have money for one.

Not sure if I should return my speakers

Ideally, that is what I would want but my receiver has no preamp outputs on it so I would have to get a new receiver with pre-amp outputs or a pre-amp and then buy a power amp. I do not have the money to do that.

Not sure if I should return my speakers

I own a 5.0 setup of the Pioneer speakers designed by Andrew Jones. I have the sp-fs52s for the fronts, the sp-c22 center speaker and a pair of the sp-bs21s for the rears. I am happy with the way the speakers sound but I don't have a subwoofer and like to run my front floorstanders at full...

Not sure if I have problem with my receiver

Setting the receiver back to 8 ohms and setting the front speakers to "small" and to output >90hz got rid of the harshness in the center channel. I did read the link you sent me and it made sense but why does my receiver appear to get warmer when I set the impedance switch to 4 ohms. From what...

Not sure if I have problem with my receiver

I recently purchased a pair of the Pioneer sp-fs52 floorstanders, the Pioneer sp-c22 center speaker and a pair of the Pioneer sp-bs21s for the rears. They are all hooked up to my Sony STR-DE845 receiver. I have watched several movies on the speakers and am not completely happy with sound...

    kef q300 vs b&w 685

I had actually been looking at these same speakers and they both sounded good. Ultimately, the best thing you could do would be to audition the speakers yourself because only your ears can tell you what you like. Remember that speaker preference is subjective. I would also try to read some...

    Emptek 1010i or Hsu Stf-2

The Emp Tek 1010i subwoofer is on sale right now for $329 (normally $499). I was originally going to get the Hsu Stf-2 subwoofer which would cost about $390 with shipping but now I am considering getting the 1010i because of the cheaper price. The advantage of the Stf-2 is that it can play...

Is buying used better for my situation

I am thinking about buying used bookshelf speakers for a 5.1 setup but am wondering if I should buy used speakers that I can't demo. If I do craigslist I can demo the speakers but if I buy from audiogon or ebay I would not be able to do that. Is it worth the risk to buy higher end used...

    Thinking of trying Ascend speakers

I was thinking of getting either the Ascend 170se or 340se speakers mostly for home theater use. Can anyone who owns these speakers describe to me how they sound (i.e. bright, etc.). I know they are designed to be very accurate but does that mean they have more of a flat or neutral sound? I...

Trying to figure out how much I should spend on speakers

It is a hung ceiling. They are foam ceiling tiles. Above the ceiling tiles are florescent lights and insulation. What would I be spending money on for room correction? I could always do the room correction later when I have more money. Also, I will be moving out of my parents basement in 6...

Trying to figure out how much I should spend on speakers

I originally was set on getting the Hsu Vtf-3 but because my current home theater room is small (1,230 cu.ft in my parents basement) and because I will be living in apartments that will likely be small, I don't think I will be able to take advantage of the Vtf-3. The Stf-2 will likely be good...
