Stereo integrated amp (or DAC?) with Audyssey Dynamic EQ

Yeah, it's going to be either that or the DEQ2496. I'm trying to see if I can audition in somewhere close :). Thanks for the helpful responses so far!

Stereo integrated amp (or DAC?) with Audyssey Dynamic EQ

I would, but isn't it true Dynamic EQ essentially compensates for dips/peaks in the curve as a consequence of not listening at reference level (and doing so dynamically, since the volume obviously isn't constant). If this is true, this can't be done with better speakers or room treatments, to my...

Stereo integrated amp (or DAC?) with Audyssey Dynamic EQ

Lol, okay :D. Yes, I'm trying to put together a nice stereo system purely for music listening. The room won't be bigger than 18m² (193 ft²). My intention is to stay below €800/$1100, this is excluding speakers and sub, of course. I intend to use my Jamo C803's and BK ELEC XXLS400-DF as...

Stereo integrated amp (or DAC?) with Audyssey Dynamic EQ

Not so much room correction, as dynamic equalizing. Afaik, room correction is for stuff like 2EQ and MultEQ. While it would be nice to have, my priorities lie with Dynamic EQ. It seems the Behringer does provide such a thing, and I have enough confidence in Behringer to assume it'll be as least...

Stereo integrated amp (or DAC?) with Audyssey Dynamic EQ

It may seem like a silly question, but I've been looking all over the internet for this. Is there a stereo (pre)amp / DAC that features Audyssey's Dynamic EQ with the various reference levels (0/5/10/15dB) built in? Surround receivers with Audyssey are aplenty, but I haven't been able to find a...

Bannana Plugs Vs. Normal speaker wire

The AQ will definitely not improve (you only add a piece or metal, which has resistance), but it won't noticeably worsen the AQ either. Indeed, convenience and wire safety are the biggest differences, as fuzz stated. To that I would like to add the longevity of the speaker terminals. Say the...

    Old Receiver New Everything Else

Only get a new receiver if you think you're going to be able to hear the difference between HD audio and normal audio on your speakers setup. Or if you have non-DD/DTS surround material, such as you get with PC gaming or some 5.1 albums. Or if you run into sync issues because of a lag on your...

Need advice need new speaker system

There's a big misunderstanding here. Hdmi handles both video and audio. Up to 8 channel, 192 kHz, 24-bit audio in LPCM (=games), TrueHD and DTS-HD bitstreams. So at least for the time being, everything one would want. You cannot do this with S/PDIF regardless of whether you have a very...

Need advice need new speaker system

@BoredSysAdmin: I think what disasterpiece has been doing is downmixing to stereo and then let his Z-5500 upmix using DPL2. This creates fake surround, because almost all spatial information will have been lost. As soon as the downmixing is done, all the sound info will be flattened into two...

Need advice need new speaker system

Is there a particular reason you bought that sound card? If you intend to use optical, basically all circuitry in that card will be bypassed, rendering the investment useless. Optical also puts you at a disadvantage with regards to PC gaming, because regular multichannel audio that normally...

HTiaB Broke Down... trying to figure out my best option

Well, how broken is your old HTiB exactly? Is the DVD/BR player broken or is it the sub or one or more speakers? Because you might be able to 'recycle' some components. This way, you could for example invest in a good/better separate receiver and two good fronts and reuse the other components...

Very basic questions for a starter

Input doesn't matter. You're being bottlenecked by the laptop's connection and DAC anyway. Balanced is the best, but both sides have to be balanced or it will fallback to unbalanced. But as long as the cable length isn't too long you shouldn't worry about balanced vs balanced. The thing that...

Unsure if I should buy a new surround system

How exactly have you connected the sub to the receiver? You say with speaker wire, but your receiver doesn't seem to have high-level subwoofer outputs. Are you sure you've not connected a low-level output on your receiver to a high-level input on your subwoofer? Then it's not at all surprising...

Very basic questions for a starter

Indeed. Since you have active, but purely analogue speakers some other device is going to have to do the D/A conversion. You can let the laptop do it, but they results probably won't be as good as they could be. And if you plan to make longer runs from the source to the speakers, they...

Very basic questions for a starter

If you do not plan on upgrading to surround anytime soon, I would look into to leaving out the receiver and go with actively powered floorstanders. This will - limit your number of devices to zero, which complies with your goal of having as little devices as possible AND - you get to spend the...

Very basic questions for a starter

In my limited experience the audio chain is something like this: Decoder -> DAC -> Preamp -> power amp -> Speakers The decoder converts certain codecs such as Dolby Digital, DTS or FLAC into LPCM. LPCM is basically digitised audio waves with a certain sample frequency and bit depth. Then the...

Can I do a 3.1 channel without screwing up the imaging?

Again, as long as your receiver 'supports' 3.1 (I would be surprised if it didn't), yes. As for up/downmixing. Going from 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 audio to 3.1 will be the same as going to 2.1, with the exception that the centre channel will be left intact. Going to stereo to 3.1 will work just fine...

Can I do a 3.1 channel without screwing up the imaging?

It depends on your receiver. If you really can't let it know which speakers you have exactly, but only can say 2.0, 2.1 or 5.1 etc you will lose information, because then you'll have to set it to 5.1 and lose the audio on the rear channels. It won't be downmixed to 3.1 if the receiver doesn't...

Can Marantz SR-6006 support HD Audio?

To me, "struggling to hear dialogue" (what the TS said) sounds like a truncated centre channel, but you're right that I shouldn't have assumed that your statement was also predicated on this statement. Still, we cannot preclude the possibility of a truncated centre channel. Also "struggling to...

    Speaker Cables

The signal travelling from your amp to the speakers is not line level, but speaker level. Having said that, I don't know either why you would want to use such cables. Get regular speaker wire and optionally terminate them with banana plugs or pins if you like.
