I can vouch for the Monoprice 9723. I have one in my HT setup. (Bonus room measuring about 16'x19'x8'). The only thing it can't do in my room is provide that really low, kick me in the chest extension that more pricier subs can give. Otherwise, it's a great built, great performing sub.

I own them because of the scads of pro and owner reviews that demonstrate these outperforming loudspeakers costing close to $1000. I agree with nearly everything you wrote here (especially the Marantz AVRs), with the exception of this little bit of FUD: "the price :: performance ratio of SVS has declined since they started retailing in Best Buy." What evidence of this do you have?

Hmm. You don't really add a second sub to get more output. You add it to smooth out room modes. If more output is your goal, upgrade to a better sub that can give it to you.
