Audiophile Software Roundup: The Case For And A Comparison Of HiFi Software

I didn't mind the article for what it contained, but if the above is the true purpose there are several omissions much more important to end users than discussion of square waves and jitter. Playlist creation and management, metadata storage, album art, library management, remote control with...

    Capital AudiFest 2013 – July 26, 27, and 28

I'm about 2.5 hours from DC, but not at my house either. No parking, and you need 4WD or a donkey to get here. Ya think?? Soundfield Audio has one serious PR problem. I wouldn't accept his speakers as a gift - they'd always sound harsh to me.

    First Audiophyte System

Great advice above. I too recommend an AVR for the reasons stated, I currently use a Denon 2313 (I have zone 2 requirements). Another great speaker to consider is the Philharmonic Audio Philharmonitors. While I own Philharmonic towers, the monitors get great reviews and the company's speaker...

    what to buy?

Unless you really want a separate device, why not use the smartphone for audio as well? You're not going to find any great leaps in audio quality with any portable player.

    Audio card suggestions

I use the same card with Sennheiser RS170, also connected to a Denon AVR-2313CI via RCA. I'm set for the long haul, can't imagine it getting much better.

    $1,000 - $1,500 Bookshelf Speakers Recommendations for 2.1 System

^^ Thanks for the update! Great choices all around. Shame to see those EMP and that beautiful midrange relegated to surround duty, but hey, it beats not owning them at all! ;)

Ascend CMT-340's or Sierra-1's?... Another post looking for help with a decision.

All of the 2012 Denon CI models have 4k upscaling. The 3313 is a great choice if it fits your budget, but from features and power output, the 2113ci or 2313ci will work as well for less money.

How Loud do you listen to your Music/HT?? (DB)

What I can tolerate and what my intelligence tells me I shouldn't tolerate are two different things. :D We are usually somewhere around -25dB to -20dB from reference, on occasion to -16dB. I don't recall listening to anything louder than that.

Philharmonic Audio - 3-way open back ML-TQWTs designed by Dennis Murphy

Congrats on surviving another CAF Dennis. I hope the show was a success for you and Philharmonic Audio.

Ascend CMT-340's or Sierra-1's?... Another post looking for help with a decision.

If price is an issue then I believe the CMT-340's will meet your needs well. They do a very good job in large rooms. That said, yours is quite big! If your seating distance isn't outrageous and reference level isn't a goal then they will work well. Otherwise you may wish to continue looking...

    Cheap Stereo Receiver Question

^^ Wider range of codecs supported, better bass integration. There are also more AVRs that are network capable, which IMO is a game changer (the ability to control receiver via smartphone or tablet).

When is a new bookshelf speaker out dated?

The 2002 version is outdated. In 2006 Ascend Acoustics announced the SE "Signature Edition" of CBM and CMT with newer drivers. If you're interested specifically in Ascend, they're a good choice. Highly regarded in both professional (but who cares?) and consumer reviews, they're one of the...

    Network multiple recievers?

If you're speaking of Squeezebox, there is still a very active community developing and supporting plugins to extend capabilities. If it works, and works well, community support is all that's necessary. I NEVER recommend proprietary systems, but that's subject for a blog post, not a discussion...

    Network multiple recievers?

The best solution to your problem is Logitech Squeezebox. It's unfortunately a retired product from logitech, but there are still many available. With a Squeezebox (classic or touch) at each receiver and library on a computer in your home you can sync audio to multiple zones. Additionally...

    iPad as universal remote

I've gone through this with Android, even attempted to write my own solution. While there are very good remote control apps (via network) for most of my HT gear, where it lacks is in the overall system. "Watch DVD", "Roku", etc. - turning everything on in order, selecting appropriate...

    Which receiver?

People read this type of post and automatically presume they need an external amp. In most cases you don't, yet there will always be those who insist you spend an extra $1k for 80w. While I think it's fine to buy for the future and up your specs to a receiver with preamp outputs, wait and see...

Philharmonic Audio - 3-way open back ML-TQWTs designed by Dennis Murphy

^^ My guess is that you could trade a Slim Jim for a Slim Phil any day of the week. ;)

    2013 $500 AV Receiver Roundup

Buyers need to be careful that they're purchasing from authorized dealers. For current model year and specific manufacturers it's likely that deal comes with no warranty.

    Recommendation Request

Correction. The CMT-340 SE and CMB-170 SE are rear ported designs. Both the 170 and Ascend HTM-200 SE are commonly recommended for surrounds, only the HTMs are sealed. I can't speak for the smaller pairs, but the 340s are relatively friendly with placement.

Budget 2.0 Set Up for PC

I already own the E41-B as my desktop speakers, paired with SVS SB-1000 subwoofer. ;) They aren't going to be replaced by anything, as I doubt anything under $500 can touch them.
