Onkyo's tend to run hot. Aside from a faulty cable, that would be my guess for your issue. It needs proper ventilation or I use a cheap USB fan I got off Amazon with mine.

I'd try making it more concentrated (even paste like) or use hot water instead of cold when mixing it up to see if that helps. If not, there's always Comet..
