    Bigger or Better

Fort Lauderdale area. Found out one other datapoint that makes me happy about this choice. I get a lot of stuff via Comcast and the Sony processor apparently handles non 4k signals really well. Looking forward to seeing in person. So we will see!

    Bigger or Better

Thanks Dawn! I went to Best Buy and did some careful looking after I posted this. I like the OLEDS but there are two issues: Cost and Light. Cost in that to go with OLED I'd need to stick with a 55" class. Second, the room this TV is in gets lots of light in the morning, so brightness is...

    Bigger or Better

Been a while since I've been around but I'm looking to upgrade my existing 55" LCD display. Here is my question: Should I go for an OLED in the same size (looking at an LG B7a or C7) or a larger "LED" 65" X930E? 9 ft viewing distance, living room without a lot of off axis viewing, 4k viewing...

Tip: Adding Wireless to Hard-Wired AV Gear

Cliff, thanks for the informative article. I recently upgraded to a 50MB Cable Internet service from Comcast and went through figuring this out on my own. I ended up installing a Linksys EA-6500A along with a Linksys WUMC-710 Wireless AC Media Connector. Here are links to both for reference...

So,upped the budget for mains to $2k, now what? :-) Aperion Verus Grands? Something else?

Just to Clarify, I am NOT trashing horizontal Centers in general. Gene has an excellent counterpoint to the article I referenced that I read the other day. (You can find a link to it at the end of the Vertical/Horizontal one). I am only pointing out that from my perspective you need to pay...

So,upped the budget for mains to $2k, now what? :-) Aperion Verus Grands? Something else?

Performance issues with Horizontal Centers Goat, it is simply not true that there is "is no sweet spot for home theater since there is a center channel". Horizontally oriented Centers (most traditional in Home Theater), depending on their design, can have serious issues with off axis...

Jean, thank you for a chuckle to start my morning :D. The Aperions arrive tomorrow, so actual listening shall commence.

Question on proper bass management settings using a Yamaha RX-V659--Dilemma

Grador, yep I know there is no substitute for trial and error. I knew the settings for the center were going to be a potential trade off going into this. At least the receiver provides a good deal of flexibility and the ability make changes very quickly without interrupting source material...

Question on proper bass management settings using a Yamaha RX-V659--Dilemma

Grador, I get the trade-off which is why I have one of each of them headed my way. I want to pair the Grand Mains with the Grand Center. The problem is that the Grand Center is BIG. I'm not sure that I am going to be able to come up with a workable placement for it. And I think I get it on...

Question on proper bass management settings using a Yamaha RX-V659--Dilemma

Steve, I may be misunderstanding and will test later. But this is the sentence from the article on the receiver that led me down that path: "allows subwoofer output in 2CH mode if the speakers are set to LARGE via the LFE/Bass Out set to "Both"." It seems to imply...

Question on proper bass management settings using a Yamaha RX-V659--Dilemma

Sorry, got distracted as I was finishing the post. Speakers are Aperion Verus Grands, Sub is an Outlaw LFM-1+. The Center will be either the Verus Forte or Verus Grand. Auditioning both. Thanks, Mike

Question on proper bass management settings using a Yamaha RX-V659--Dilemma

I am doing some upgrading of my system and have been reading up on speaker placement and bass management. I Read this article here: The Marriage Between the Subwoofer and Tower Speakers Lots of good info. It says to set all of your speakers to small, and then set an appropriate crossover...

So,upped the budget for mains to $2k, now what? :-) Aperion Verus Grands? Something else?

Yes, Goat. That is exactly what I am saying and I am glad you were able to discern the precise message in my post. To sum it up, your speakers are crappy and so are your ears. Can you put them on Craig's list too? ;) <Kidding obviously> None of these measurements will tell you the entire...

So,upped the budget for mains to $2k, now what? :-) Aperion Verus Grands? Something else?

Thanks. What I was getting at was a more general comment that the KEF looked generally flatter in the first couple of off axis plots than the two electrostat plots and at least to my eye looked smoother. And the overall plot looked smoother as well. Not perfect, but less "jaggies". It also...

So,upped the budget for mains to $2k, now what? :-) Aperion Verus Grands? Something else?

Goat, I'm not an expert but let me give a try at explaining the graphs above because they are prety useful and have a lot of info. There are three axies. The one on the far left is Db (sometimes called sound Pressure Level I think). That is a unit of volume. The one across the bottom is...

So,upped the budget for mains to $2k, now what? :-) Aperion Verus Grands? Something else?

Thanks Harrison. Did you order a center as well? I have the smaller Verus Forte Center on the way, but am thinking seriously about going for the Grand Center. Problem is making space for it. It is a beast.

So,upped the budget for mains to $2k, now what? :-) Aperion Verus Grands? Something else?

Thank you, Padgman. Two Aperion Verus Grands in Cherry came up on open box at a discount, so I snapped them up. Going to audition them in the house and go from there. Should arrive Tuesday. Glad I did, because new ones are now on backorder until 5/7.

Axiom m-60 vs Aperion Versus Forte

I hear you, Go. This is a major upgrade for me--especially in the aesthetics and hopefully in the sound-- and a long time in coming. I've been running Athena ASF-2s for about 10 years and have been really happy with them. They offered good performance for the price, were well reviewed, and...

Axiom m-60 vs Aperion Versus Forte

Goat, yes exactly. It is big. Because of how I have things configured, the Center needs to go on the cabinet in front of the TV and the 9" height would mean re-jiggering things. Talked to Aperion and the guy said that the smaller Forte should be a fine match tone-wise and the finish is the...

Axiom m-60 vs Aperion Versus Forte

Billy, thanks much. I stuck with it this time, but I have had other times when input over here kept me from doing something REALLY stupid (buying the Axiom M-60s perhaps? :-) ). So I always like to run my audio and video decisions through the ringer over here at least once. Actually, I didn't...
