    Onkyo TX-SR805 vs. Pioneer VSX-91TXH

I sold a Pioneer VSX-82 and replaced it with the 805. I am not unhappy with the choice. I have no idea what everyone is talking about as far as the "sound delay problem" is concerned. I don't have any lip-sync issues with dvd, hd-dvd, or blu-ray. Cable is another story, but I have had issues...

Good price for Energy Ref series?

It willl most certainly affect the positioning of sounds BETWEEN the front and the back. We aren't talking about power cords or interconnects here. Unless you subscribe to the idea that all speakers sound alike.

    Onkyo TX-SR805 or Pioneer VSX-91TXH?

I think that the 805 is the receiver to beat at anywhere up to $1500. At that point, if the video processing meets expectations, the 875 will probably pick up from there. I just replaced a Pioneer VSX-82 with an 805 and consider it to be a substantial upgrade.

Good price for Energy Ref series?

For what it's worth, I got the same setup, less the sub, on Audiogon for $1270 USD shipped. I don't subscribe to the "surrounds don't matter" theory. I would be willing to bet that most, if not all, of the people who will tell you that have never owned a matched set of speakers and therefore...

New power cord for multi-chanel amp.

Think of it this way. There are miles of wire between you and the power company's generators. Does it make sense that replacing the last three feet of it is going to improve the electricity in any way?

My Pioneer 5185 is showing green & red bulges at the bottom

There is currenty no benefit to having HDMI 1.3 on a display device. The video differences in 1.3 over previous versions provide extra video bandwidth for source components and displays that do not currently exist.

Old CD players 80's to early 90's Thread.

I had the original Sony CDP-101. I paid $900.00 for it! Availability of CDs was terrible for the first year or so. Most record stores had maybe a half dozen of them hanging up behind the counter. The most I ever saw in one place was about 20. I also did not own any that were anything I would...

Long Distance HDMI cable causes quality degrade?

I just bought a couple of cables from Blue Jeans (15' and 6') and they are very nice and reasonably priced. I originally had Monoprice cables in the same length and found that the 15' worked OK when hooked directly to the TV, but introduced some sparkles when going from the DVD to the receiver...

    Thoughts on Pioneer Elite receivers

I've owned every brand receiver that you mentioned with the exception of Mazantz. I think that they all make a fine receiver, thought the Harman's are a bit flakey. My last two have been Pioneer with current (about a month old) being the Elite VSX-82TXS. If I could pick and choose features from...

    Denon 3806 or Elite vsx82

I have only had the receiver for a little over a week so I have not had much time to play with it. I have it hooked up via HDMI only. My front speakers (Energy C-7) have good low bass and are set to large. This could mask a lower than normal output in the LFE channel. I'll have more time this...

    Consumer Reports Rates A/V Receivers

"Digital" is no guarantee of quality. The sound on your cell phone is digital. Would you want your home theater to have seven channels of that? :D

    Consumer Reports Rates A/V Receivers

Keep in mind that they once stated that LaserDisc was no better than std VHS.

    Denon 3806 or Elite vsx82

I haven't had any problems with my VSX-82 and my HDA1. The SA8300 is a known problem though. Mine does not work over HDMI. This is dependent on the firmware version of the SA. If your cable company has kept up with the updates, it should not be a problem.

    Why wait for HDMI 1.3

That doesn't mean that there will be improvements in current video formats. If someone comes up with a new format that can take advantage of the extra bandwidth, it is there to use. Maybe in 5-10 years this will be useful.

    Why wait for HDMI 1.3

You only need HDMI 1.1 to take advantage of the advanced audio formats. The only thing 1.3 will give you on the audio side is the ability for the receiver to do the decoding instead of the player. My HDA1 decodes TrueHD and DD+ and sends it over to the receiver as 24/96 pcm.

    HK 7300 or Pioneer 9300

Don't under estimate the value of room correction. Unless you are currenty seriously underpowered, it can be a very noticeable improvement compared to a new amp. Also, if you decide that more power is what you want, the amp section of the AVR-7300 is MUCH more robust than your Onkyo. Thats...

    HK 7300 or Pioneer 9300

I've had a 9300 for about a year now and have been very pleased with it. There are 2 differences between it and the Elite 56TXi. First, this is the only functional difference, it does not have iLink. Second, the door on the front of the 56TXi is solid aluminum and on the 9300 it is plastic with...
