Wish list for a stereophile receiver: Thread killed due to rude replies.

You have a point. A better choice of words in my post would have been "musicality" rather than "sound". And I can see how it could be perceived as condescending, I did not intend it that way. But you know what, something tells me there would still have been rude replies. However, I do not think...

Wish list for a stereophile receiver: Thread killed due to rude replies.

Why is it that just hitting the Back button, or stating a polite disagreement is just not an option for some people? How is rudeness necessary?

I just killed this thread. People don't like to be told they may not be audiophiles. They react with rudeness, I'm done with that.

Connecting a Graphic EQ to Receiver Without "Tape 2 Loop"...Possible?

You are correct they do, but not good for recording because your amp volume affects the recorder input. And when not tamed by a volume control, all the EQ background noise makes it 100% to the amp.

About dynamic headroom (controversial topic :-)

That is what TIM is. It's the amplifier input stages running open loop, because the feedback signal is not back yet due to the amp low bandwidth. Interestingly, when the war on THD started in the mid-70s (remember the ground-breaking 0.5% THD specs?) the TIM skyrocketed, because manufacturers...

Connecting a Graphic EQ to Receiver Without "Tape 2 Loop"...Possible?

Right. Well, if you happen to know a technician, a Tape Monitor is really nothing more than a DPDT switch and a pair of RCA jacks inserted in the current circuit - about $10 worth of parts. You can PM me for a diagram targeting your receiver. Good luck.

Connecting a Graphic EQ to Receiver Without "Tape 2 Loop"...Possible?

Even an external amp would not solve the problem, because he does not want (neither would I) the EQ after the volume control.

Connecting a Graphic EQ to Receiver Without "Tape 2 Loop"...Possible?

I guess I failed to communicate why your receiver does not have a tape monitor. Tape IN is just a normal input for your receiver. When selected, its signal goes to Tape Out. Not your CD, not your phono signal, just the Tape IN goes to Tape Out. If the EQ is connected to Tape Out and you select...

Connecting a Graphic EQ to Receiver Without "Tape 2 Loop"...Possible?

Right, won't work at all if you have no AMP-IN - and I know that you don't. Yep okay... No, because your receiver does not have a real Tape loop, what we used to call a Tape Monitor. I am including the block diagram or your selector below. You will see that the Tape Out is whatever is...

Onkyo Keeps Hi Fi Alive & Well With New Stereo Receiver...

I would say this is true, EXCEPT when the 4-ohms output is limited by the power supply. If that is the case, then an AVR normally has a better power supply than a stereo amp, because it has to supply 5 or 7 amps instead of two. That is why AVRs have the best power supplies for stereo use. My...

So newbie it hurts and then smokes a little....

I would suggest getting an ohm-meter, and make sure a pair of wires reads at least 4 ohms before connecting it to the amp. If you are blowing fuses, I suspect a short circuit (< 1 ohm load). Double check all your connections, and that your volume controls are properly connected (if it has 4...

Connecting a Graphic EQ to Receiver Without "Tape 2 Loop"...Possible?

If I understand well, your receiver has Pre-Outs, but no "Amp-In". Old receivers used to have pre-outs and amp-ins with jumpers going from one to the other. That explains why someone here assumes you have amp-ins. The person suggesting an external amp had perceived that you did not have...

Bi wiring: 1+2 or 4 channels?

Okay. When you called me "self appointed mamby pamby word police", you were just stating a valid point of view. I understand now.

About dynamic headroom (controversial topic :-)

Yes. Their effect does overlap a little bit though. The standard Dynamic Headroom 20ms pulse test may not show the difference in capacitance anyways. Even though as PENG pointed out the advantages of crosstalk VS bigger supply availability may balance each other, I too would go monoblocks...

Well that was rude. Message received.

About dynamic headroom (controversial topic :-)

I'm facing much disagreement on this post about this. My contention is that a 200W continuous amplifier capable 200W peaks will have a better, more controlled and solid sound than if it could give 300W peaks. And if these numbers are in 8 ohms, the 200W peaks amplifier would probably be more...

About dynamic headroom (controversial topic :-)

Let's all keep in mind that while we're talking about the filtering caps helping in brief high current situations, the Dynamic Headroom test is done with a 20ms pulse. It is likely that even the skimpiest filtering caps would give similar results as large caps. I haven't done these calculations...

Variable loudness contour control - which model?

My favorite integrated amp is my Yamaha A-960. It does have a variable loudness control that works absolutely beautifully. I just love it, and you're right to go after this. The Yamaha variable loudness circuit is a simple set of passive components. 4 resistors, 4 capacitors, a stereo...

    Speaker problems

I take your word that you have seen it, although I can imagine the warranty nightmares it could lead to for manufacturers. Do you think the Bose 301 would display such a harmful impedance?

If you used a credit card or paypal for the payment, you can ask for a justification of payment, go back to the merchant, ask for a copy of your receipt. If you keep at it you will end up with sufficient proof for your warranty.
