    EMP Black Friday Sale!

I always wondered about that spec when I purchased the E55ti's a few years ago. That 120 hz crossover does not make a lot of sense, especially since Emp designed those speakers to work with a sub. With an 80 hz cutoff those 6 drivers would be almost useless. When I upgraded my center channel to...

    EMP Black Friday Sale!

I am not arguing about the bass response between a tower and separate subs. i agree with you in that regard. In this particular case with the Emp's, there is a serious compromise with the bookshelf in that it is using that 5 inch driver to cover a freq response from 60 hz to 3000 hz. Contrary...

    EMP Black Friday Sale!

Absolutely! The bookshelves midrange driver is ported and the tower midrange drivers are in a sealed cabinet. The towers sound is cleaner with less distortion and more efficient. Especially at higher output levels. Set your bass management to 80 hz and compare the sound at equal levels, the...

Why do more expensive speakers tend to be less efficient?

Modifying the sound system does not void the car warranty. A warranty claim can be denied by the manufacturer, only if they can prove that the modification caused the failure that is being claimed.

How do you all know which speakers produce a "colored" sound and which ones do not?

I do not play an instrument, but I do have access and attend regularly two highly regarded music centers. each of the venues have there own distinct sound, and I definitely prefer the less famous of the two. I also have a preferred seating position for the orchestral concerts I attend. Within...

Do all amplifiers sound the same thread

The impedance at 1500 hz is 10 ohms. Would you need that much power to generate 110 db at that frequency?

How do you all know which speakers produce a "colored" sound and which ones do not?

The room correction software included with avr's do not try to achieve flat frequency response. They will have a gradual slope down from bass through treble. A flat in-room target response is not the target curve for room equalization.

How do you all know which speakers produce a "colored" sound and which ones do not?

The OP is asking about sound from the speaker. The interaction with the room and what is heard is paramount to the discussion. Trying to simplify an answer to a very complicated question is a disservice to the discussion at hand. The box is too large.

How do you all know which speakers produce a "colored" sound and which ones do not?

This is an incorrect statement. Floyd Toole and others have shown that a speaker which measures flat in an anechoic chamber will probably sound very nice in a real room. This is not the same as measuring flat in that real room. A flat anechoic speaker will tend to have a higher bass level...

How do you all know which speakers produce a "colored" sound and which ones do not?

If one were to listen to a recording where the volume from the speakers are equal at all frequencies, the sound would be bright and for lack of a better term "dry."And the bass will be thin.

How do you all know which speakers produce a "colored" sound and which ones do not?

But, nobody listens to a flat frequency response from speakers.

    KEF Speakers

Uniform off axis throw does not equal neutrality. A speaker with a very gradual off axis roll off(upper mid to low treble) will sound very bright in a somewhat normal room, but will sound quite neutral in a very large room. A speaker with somewhat controlled directivity and a faster roll off...

The width of the room could be considered more important. A thirty foot deep room that is only 14 feet wide will not see any benefit with 7.1, if you have the surrounds a bit behind you.

Have you checked for any interference on the mids cone with the pole piece? When i first received my e55's I did hear a harshness on occasion. I found that one of the midrange drivers would make a scratchy noise when I pushed the cone in and out. Replaced driver and no more harshness! If you...
